La Grange get's to find out just how good this years Cuero team will be , Also it will be a little bit of a reunion for our new Coach since his wife is from Cuero. Maybe we will see some shirts divided between Purple and Green.

Looking forward to viewing LG scrimmage against a very fine Gobbler ball club. LG looked very good last Saturday against Liberty Hill at Leopard field. Our defense was aggressive and our offense is waiting for the vanguard QB to show up to lead the crew and make vertical jump and one-handed catching specialist Wilkerson shine. Texas Football magazine is allowed to be wrong with district picks. Actually it's nice for a change to be the underdog in our tough distict. So, it's less expectation, perhaps under the radar kind of feeling but I'm sure the mightly Leopards will be tightening the screws slowly with each opponent. Leopards have GAMEFACE ON!

Dont look for many fireworks on the Gobblers side of the field.Cuero will again be very basic the week before the season starts. Look for the Gobblers to run right at LG as they get hard looks at that O line to make sure everyone is right were they need to be.

Cuero gets the bragging rights with a td in the controlled scrimmage and another in the simulated quarter to finish 2-0. The Leps looked very good on the defense especially against the run. The two tds came off long pass plays, one on a flag route in the controlled scrimmage and another on a very well executed post route beating our defender for the score. It should be noted that both teams held out one of their best players. The Leps O line and D line looked very good even though Chad Childs was benched with a bruised shoulder. For Cuero Trent Jackson did not play for some reason.
I think the Leps will gel into a very strong team. Cuero will dominate as they have done so many times in the past. Go Leps!

Much improvement on the part of the Leps offensive line from last week. Wilkerson was held out most of the scrimmage for LG also. Looking forward to the real deal next Friday. GO LG!

Like I said before hand, Cuero would be very basic, Spent most of the night looking at kids on the lines. LG is very well coached, he get's all and more from every kid. That said, I dont think they will be the team they were last year. Coaches felt Jackson worked very hard in practice and had nothing to prove, and it was a good time to see younger smaller kids have a shot to step up. The 3 kids that did carry the ball had 150+ yards Not only was Jackson out, but also returning starting FB in Thibodeaux.

Just a side note about each D: Cuero did have 3 Int's and 2 that would have clearly been returned for TD's if the game was not stopped to save time. And a Fumble recovery that was returned for a TD. While LG did have 1 INT and the kid was then takled right away.

Just my opinion, Jackson would have had a huge night against the Leps D.

Wilkerson played 2 series and our best lineman never saw the field, saw your FB on the field a good bit both on offense and defense. Cuero looked good on D as did LG however I would say even though Cuero has some big boy's on the OL they had trouble opening up holes. Cuero might also try to find someone to field punts, did not catch a punt and also lost the first punt of the live scrimmage. On a side note we cooked 130 double meat burgers for the Cuero team and staff, players and coaches all seemed to be very Thankful. When Jackson get's back there to carry the rock , Cuero will be in good hands. Good Luck to the Cuero team and coaching staff, A Class act.

I was struck by how effective the Leps O line was last night despite their small size and lack of varsity experience. The pass protection was very good. The O line showed good technique in blocking and in footwork on pass protection to the credit of good coaching. The running game should develop as the line gets better at opening holes. Misdirection plays like stretch right or stretch left help with the smaller lineman. The qbs took way too long to deliver the ball yet they only got sacked a few times. If the qbs develop a quicker delivery and the receivers get their routes down the offense will become effective. These are fixable issues so I'm optimistic about our teams future.

The defense looked good especially the down linemen and linebacker play. The secondary let some receivers get behind them and I'm sure they will be working on that this week. All in all the Leps although a young team are showing real promise.

The OL did do a really good job last night and that was without Childs, QB's and running game will need to come together. All and all going against a top 5 team in 3A State will only help this young team, I counted 6 sophmores that saw playing time on Varsity last night. Last year when we scrimmaged Cuero the defenses were also ahead of the offenses, we struggled on offense last year against them also, think we had a couple long passes that Wilkerson make great catches on. This team will get better and better as the season progresses.

I do agree the Leps will get better each week. They are well coached. I do see them making a run at the playoffs. Cuero was bigger upfront, but keep in mind they also like LG had some young kids, 3 linemen were Sophs. and those back up RB's you got to see, 1 was a fresh. one was a soph. So like LG, I do see the young kids from Cuero getting better each week as well. The Sr. leadership will also help them along.

I was impressed by the poise of the Cuero Qb and how well their Wrs ran their patterns.
This is going to be another big year for the Gobblers.

It's hard to tell from a scrimage how good a team is. The Gobblers are a young team, and the o-line will gel together as the season cranks up.

They did play a qtr of actual game, and Cuero was in control for most of it. #8 had a great game, esp. on defense.

I like our new defense!! I think our kids like it to. No, we didn't get to the QB as much as I would like, but we made him throw quite of few INT's.

One more thing, I love Tib. at saftey. Wr going over the middle will be nervous with him there. He was knockin' some heads last night!!!

12th man you are right, the new defense is a big positive.

I do not think you can win a state championship unless you have a shut down, hard hitting, killer instinct defense.

I like the four linebacker defense, I think we will see the intensity level turn up once the lights come on next Friday night. Defense is where you win games when two good teams meet, It comes down to who can stop who. I hope we stay aggressive through the season and I hope we play with a high level of intesity week in week out. Turn those kids loose on defense!

Very solid schedule and the district this year will probably be the most competitive as it's been in 7 years, Gobblers will have to keep getting better each week. I do not think there is a team in Region IV that is better than us, that doesn't mean we won't get beat, but I think the expectations are to get bck to the semi-finals with a chance to get over the hump and bring home a title.

GET BETTER EVRY DAY!
