Who do you think is the best and why?

Stump and Case Keenum are at the top of my list for sure.

That's just a couple of names. Of course, I'm going to throw Tyler's name in there also.

Well, I was talking about best high school QB from 2000-2009, the first decade. Sorry, I didn't make myself clear.

Matt Preston lead the Wylie Bulldogs to back to back state championship games and had the best win percentage of ANY WHS Quarterback, yet he gets no respect. He and Case Keenum would have to be in the top 3 for sure.

Correct me if I'm wrong but he did not lead them to back to back SC games, one was a semi-final loss to Prosper.:p

I dont have his numbers in front of me, and I know he was only 3A for 1 year, but Casey Pachall was dang good.

You're correct, my mistake. But his stats are still impressive.

Among the best...

Phillip Daugherty, Bridgeport 2000-2002,
No. 5 on the All-Time Career Passing Yards list with 10,136 yards.

For once I'm going to make a homer pick...

Everman's Michael Benton
29-1 record as a starter
2 state championships
80/163 passing 1566 yards 30 TD
1430 rush yards 37 TD

Stats don't measure up to the greats but anyone who played against him knows he was unreal...

Keenum and Godfrey are probably my top two...

GJ Kinne -- Canton, Gilmer

Can't argue with stats or what he is doing at Tulsa.

Manuel Johnson and his whats his name that was QB at Tatum the same couple of years, the one that went to TCU. My mind just went blank. What a game they had in the playoffs when Gilmer played Tatum at Homer Bryce in Nac. that year.

That would be Stephen Hodge. They are both Dallas Cowboys now. Hopefully they'll make the roster of 53, but the odds are against them at this point.:( Yeah, Manny got the best of Hodge in their matchups, but it was always hyped. The game you're talking about was a 60-35 Gilmer win in '04.

Yeah, thats right! I was at that game. Back and fourth until the 3rd. Gilmer was able to just stay two touchdowns ahead until they ran away with it. Stayed over and watched Jasper vs Marlin in Nac that same night. Great day.

+1, played against all 3 in high school. Tye Gunn was a game changer with his feet, McGee with his arm, and Alaniz with both. All 3 were great high school qb's.

iv chris is right, I got friends at Wylie that say Matt Preston was flat out a winner. A lot of colleges missed out on this kid, just like they almost did with Case Keenum (only offer was from Houston, WOW). There are kids with big flashy stats, then there are kids that are winners. Matt was a winner. That to me is the proof of a good QB. Can they lead their teams to victories? This will be a short list, but name me the 3A QB’s in the 2000’s that got their teams to back to back final fours like Matt did?

Since I basically started the thread :D. My vote goes to THE Darian Stump Godfrey. On varsity all four years, a starter 3. As a starter only lost to eventual state champions (in the playoffs). Literlly changed games with his presense. I know his cousins and other D1 committal helped out as well

JJ Harp from Argyle threw for a season high
3513 yards. Career threw for 5937 yards.
Currently holds single game D2 passing record of 695 yards.

He was a good one for sure! He and that tall WR were one heck of a duo

I had the pleasure of seeing some great QB's in the last 35+ years.. Lots of playoff games against stellar programs. My memory is kinda "foggy" from the 70's (except Marty Aikens of GP)so I'll just mention the last decade.. I am a homer, so I am going to say Tyler Arndt of course :) Case Keenum and Stump. In my opinion, there is no way AW or Gilmer beat Cuero without any other QB in the game except Case and Stump. Those 2 guys both put the weight of the team on their shoulders and found a way to get the job done.

Other than Preston the only one I can think of off the top of my head is Benton and Stephen McGee...did Liberty Hill or Celina have the same starting QBs during their runs?

Top 3A QBs that I have personally seen play in since 2001:

Adrian Alaniz & Josh Harrison (homer picks :D )
Darian "Stump" Godfrey
Michael Benton ( :( )
Steven McGee ( :( ) &
Casey Pachall

and probably a few others, but those are the ones that stick out in my mind.

McGee got to back to back State Finals. I think he only lost 2 games his last 2 years, the State Championship game each year.

tye gunn from lg in my opinion. in h.s he was option qb with blazing speed and one at least 1 im thinking 2 state champs . then went to tcu and banged up his knees and what does he do, become a deadly pocket qb an i believe his is the last qb to go into norman and beat the sooners. i think he might have been undfeated as a starter, just couldnt stay healthy. alot great qbs to pick from in that era.

2006 we had Thomas Perrin, then Braden Fickel for 2007 & 2008.

Having watched my Rams face:
Chandler Dane
Phillip Daugherty
Jevan Snead
Tommy Dorman
Derek Thompson

I would have to say Snead was one of the best I have seen at the high school level during the 2000's

GJ had that "it", you could tell that he was in charge. I wish I could have seen that Gilmer/Canton game in 05. I remember hearing updates on the way back from LEs game in Longview. I didn't think the game was ever going to end.

I know its UNT but he will make them a much improved offense than before.
