Last season: 8-4 (6-0 in 11-3A); lost to Argyle in area round of playoffs.
Key players: LB Trevor Gardner (6-0, 235); FS Curtis Shorts (6-2, 195); CB Chris Alexander (6-0, 165)
The big picture: All-State LB Gardner is one of eight returning starters on a defense that should take some pressure off an offense that will feature eight new starters. New quarterback Montana Chitty (6-2, 220) is a converted tight end, but Whitmire said they have groomed him to be the starter since his freshman season. They'll be without the services of 2,000-yard rusher Joel Rockmore, who has graduated.
