It's official after a lot of speculation.

Quarterback Tyrik Rollison from Auburn and running back D. J. Morrow from Louisiana Tech have enrolled at Sam Houston and will play for the Bearkat football team this fall.

Rollison (6-0, 194) led Sulphur Springs High School to the Texas Class 4A Division II state championship in 2008. As a senior he completed 315-of-428 passes for 4,728 yards and 51 touchdowns and rushed for 1,094 yards. In the state championship game alone he passed for 398 yards and four touchdowns and rushed for 127 yards and three more scores.

"We are excited to add both players to our team," Sam Houston head coach Willie Fritz said. "The biggest thing about Tyrik is that he will have four years to compete for us. He has an awful lot of ability and he had a great high school career. We have a diverse offense that first waht he can do."

As a junior he completed 296-of-423 passes for 3,691 yards and 37 touchdowns and rushed for 554 yards. He was a two-time All-State selection for head coach Greg Owens.

Morrow (5-10, 200) led Palestine Westwood High School to the District 20-3A championship as a senior, earning first team All-District recognition both as a junior and a senior. He was a four-year letterman for head coach Kevin Anderson.

Morrow rushed for 1,650 yards and 19 touchdowns as a junior and 850 yards as a senior. He also was a four-year basketball and track and field letterman.

"D. J. has three years to play for us, so that is huge," Fritz said. "He has experience in NCAA FBS games and had 30 carries at Louisiana Tech. He is going to be included in the running back battle and we certainly feel better about that spot."

Prior to the addition of Morrow to the squad, Sam Houston did not have a running back with any collegiate experience on the roster. Morrow played in seven games for Louisiana Tech last season as a freshman and carried the ball 31 times for 150 yards and a touchdown. He also threw a 19-yard touchdown and caught four passes for 26 yards.

Both Rollison and Morrow will participate in pre-season football drills. A total of 90 Sam Houston players will report for pre-season camp on Thursday August 5. The first practice session will be Friday August 6.

Rollison will be reunited with Bearkat redshirt freshman wide receiver Jace Jackson. The two played together at Sulphur Springs and connected on 105 passes for 1,550 yards and 19 touchdowns on the way to the state title.

"I think that number one Tyrik wanted to be closer to home," Fritz said. "Jace is one of his best friends and I think they wanted to play together again. Tyrik is going to be a good fit for us."

Sam Houston begins its 2010 football schedule Saturday September 4 at Baylor. The Bearkats will play four home games at Bowers Stadium with the home opener against Gardner-Webb on Saturday September 25.
