Don't have a number for Ingleside but a friend of mine that works at the school said that the place was crawling with kids this morning. That "arrogant" Coach Hesseltine just has a way of getting them boys out.

Had a very good turnout, missing a few who are competing in National Jr Olympics this week.

Most of them were from Brownwood. Had to explain to them that you can't move to a new school for athletic purposes.:stirpot:

Actually we had 256 if you count the recruits that showed up at the last minute. They almost didn't make it due to a delayed flight from Florida. Coach made them run after practice for being late. Buying them cars to drive tomorrow...

Rocky James never has a problem with players coming out to play football.

The Rio Hondo head coach saw the trend continue as practices started on Monday as over 90 Bobcats hit the practice fields to start two-a-days.

Teams that did not hold spring football could start practice on Monday. Those that did have spring ball will start next Monday. Sub-4A schools typically do not hold spring practice.

“It’s an awesome day today,” said James, entering his third season with the ’Cats. “It was hot, but the kids’ intensity stayed up. I was proud of the guys and the shape they came in from the summer.”

Despite a steamy morning that saw little breeze, the Bobcats were in high spirits as they worked out offensive and defensive drills at their practice field.

There’ll be plenty of new faces on the field for Rio Hondo this season with a few youngsters who saw time a year ago. Leading that group is sophomore quarterback Juan Puga, who's expected to be the starter in Week Zero.

“Last year we basically lost the district title by a touchdown,” James said. “And we’re reminding them of that. We’ve got a bunch of young guys that have to step up and take over some leadership roles.

Over at Port Isabel, head coach Monty Stumbaugh also saw over 90 Tarpons show for practices as PI tries to right the ship after missing the postseason the last two years.

The Tarpons also welcome several newcomers to the varsity level.
