Matthew, I've never steered you wrong, go to Butter Churn. Sundays they even have cobblers for desert. Got an ice cream machine too. Be willing to bet you'll enjoy it. I might even make it down myself.

Didn't say there was anything wrong with it, just that it wasn't worth a detour.

Its a little bit of a detour...remember I'm coming into town from the Valley :)

I actually ate there a couple of months ago. I didn't think it was too expensive considering they had sirloin steak on the buffet. The selection of items is huge, including lots of different meats and sides, as well as a great salad bar. One thing I remember is a sausage I mistook for hot links, that was really tasty so I wasn't disappointed.

Would I make a detour to go there again? YOU BET!!

It's not a big detour if you are passing through, Matthew. I think it would be worth it. The food is pretty good.

sinfan75
08-03-2010, 06:25 PM
Actually, if you hit 181 in Sinton and go up into Lockhart and hit the new toll road, you by-pass SA and Austin and it's smooth sailin into Fort-Worth. Take that route at least once a year.

If you are in the valley and go to South Padre Island, Texas be sure to go to the Pelican West Band's place. It is great!

Matthew328
08-03-2010, 06:48 PM
If I was coming from Ft Worth, I'd take the easy route I-35 to I-37...since I'm coming in from the Valley I think I'm just taking 77 up...

77's a nice drive too. I like that way best. Nice country to drive through when you're not in ahurry.

I drove 77 back last time...took forever...although LaGrange is gorgeous...

Next week...I'm expecting the welcoming committee in Sinton!

I like goin up 77 when I'm not in a big hurry. Much more relaxing drive than goin up 35 all the way.

Butter Churn is a great place to eat.

Sometimes, my wife and I travel from Corpus to eat there on the weekend.

Be prepared though...it is a buffet style place...and some people just don't like to put themselves in a position to eat more than Whale in one meal.

PS: The one in AP is not worth the trip!

If you don't mind a suggestion, I'd say skip Joe Cotton's and go to Miller's (NOT Bill Miller's) on West Leopard St. instead. Darned good Mesquite BBQ.
