What's the best half ton for your needs/money and why?

I love my Silverado....dad had it for 5 years and I've had it 3 and even with the few dings I've accidently put on it and the cd player I had stolen out of it, I can't see myself getting anything else anytime soon.

No question about it. For dependability and quality FORD!

The fact that I have made my living for the past 25 years off Ford vehicles and products has nothing to do with it.:D

I really like the new Dodges (since '09) and Toyotas (since '07), but can't get away from GMC.

I've taken two GM's to 300k miles (one-owner 1990 GMC Suburban, family-owned 1997 Suburban) and my current one to 150k (one-owner 2003 GMC Sierra) with minimal problems. For what I value in a truck, they beat out the others. I like smooth rides (still far and away the smoothest ride of any truck) and power (been the industry leader in power the past two decades). But then again, anything over 300 hp and 320 lb-ft of torque will fit any needs I have.

But heck, I'll take one of those 5.4's anyday. Rock solid and have a sturdy, firm ride that suits some folks' needs better than the GM's.

Don't know any first-hand info about the Nissans, but the stuff that I've heard has been mostly about the early Titans and has been negative. Don't know if it was warranted or even if it was true, but if true maybe they corrected those problems.

As much as I like the new Toyotas and Dodges, they're just too much maintenance for my taste.

I would have been perfectly happy with a 2010-2011 Ram 1500 though.

I own a F250 Super Duty. Best riding truck I have ever owned.

LOVE my f-150 4dr. Traded in a luxury brand suv for it and am much happier all the way around.

If I didn't get a Ford, though, I was interested in a Toyota. Well made cars produced here in Texas. The people I know who've had them loved them.

I have an 09 dodge ram quad cab and I don't like it... the back seat seems really small and there are just little things that bother me with the truck over all. I would much rather have a Silverado crewcab myself.

DO NOT buy a diesel from Ford...since about 2003 the engines have had A LOT of problems.

In my humble opinion the problem with diesel engines today are the environmental requirements. Dodge had their Cummins diesel and Ford had the 7.3 Powerstroke. They had both these engines humming and were doing great with them. However, environmental requirements are increased annually. Both Ford and Dodge have had to change their engines to keep up with these requirements. Both are now having problems. Just can't leave a good thing alone. That straight 6 Cummins that Dodge was using may be the best small truck diesel ever made but they had to change it. If you wait too long the manufacturers may have to change the engines they are using again.

If Ford gets even CLOSE to the Powerstroke, it'll be a great engine.

I've owned every make of truck sold in North America. I liked certain things about all of them....and disliked certain things about all of them. Bottom line is that EVERYONE builds a pretty decent truck these days, it's all about what you are looking for and what you want out of your truck.

With that said....I really don't have a need for a full sized pickup these days....my next one will be a Toyota Tacoma 4x4 w/ TRD package.
