Will Tiger get his game up to the level it needs to be to win the Open? Can Tom Watson make another run? I would love to see Phil contend.. The weather is always a factor, should be another great major.. Stewart Cink is the defending champion. The tournament is at St. Andrews in Scotland..

Big John Daly in at 66 for first round. Tied for the lead!! Could have been a 63 or 64. Missed some putts that were right in the heart and seemed to lip out or just miss. Hope he keeps it together and is in contention the entire tournament.

some low numbers being posted...

rory gonna have a chance to shoot 60....

too bad its not raining with 40 mph winds - sometimes its more fun to see tour guys shooting 80 than it is to see them shoot 60....

I would like to see Tiger make it interesting. (I really don't care about his sex life) 2nd choice is Lefty.. Would love to see Tom finish in the top 3.. that would be neat :)

The light just went off in my head....... (background story) our AC went out last night (Weds night) . OMG it was horrible, anyway - hubby and I "camped out" in the living room last night with 4 fans blowing on us and Johnny toughed it out in his room. We all 'napped' off and on all night (I don't know how people sleep without AC) anyway -Johnny came in the living room about 3:30 and told his dad "It's on now" I was watching Criminal Minds on DVR and Mr44 said 'OK, thanks' I'll watch it later. SO I guess Johnny was watching British Open ;)

update.. the AC is fixed :)

I am rooting for Padraig even though he is +1 after the 1st round. I believe he can make a comeback if or when the rain and 40+ mph winds hit

I watched a little at noon - Lefty was having some trouble.. He double-boogeyed a hole and missed a couple of "gimme" putts. It's way early though.. Oh and yes, Hotch is a "bad dude" ;)

Does a double "boogey" involve a disco ball? It's a good thing, Phil can "hustle." ;)

I know that was corny, Lorey...humor me. :D

Rory McIlroy, the 21-year-old phenom who shot a final-round 62 in May to win the Quail Hollow Championship, shot an opening-round 63 at the British Open on Thursday.

I hadnt noticed before, but saw a bit of an interview with McIlroy at noon today. If they hadnt told me he is 21, I might have guessed about 16. None the less, I think I'll be rooting for this young man. Especially if he can smoke Tiger's tail on occasion.

Maybe we finally have someone on the scene that isnt intimidated by Tigers every move, and can kick his butt with some regularity.

Have my bud TIVO set to catch it all. Good to see Daly play well. Really like the way McIlroy played. He has a good head, just don't know if he can keep his cool for 72 holes. Wish my man Lefty were playing better. Maybe tomorrow!! Love this event!!

I hope McIlroy wins it but if Im a Tiger Woods fan (which Im not) I'd be really happy with where he is sitting right now.

Has a first-round leader ever missed a cut at a major? McIlroy is heading that direction...
