Celina was in the huddle next to the football and number 4 on Brownwood for some reason reached over the football into the huddle and jerked one of our guys and started mouthing. The refs chucked the flag and number 4 went to the side lines. Our player was like what are you doing.

here is what actually happened. Celina was at the 3-4 yard line and calling the play very close to the line of scrimmage. Number 4 for brownwood was trying to listen to our play. Beast and I were called to midfield at halftime and told to focus on football and quit jawing at each other. (not Beast and I but the boys).

All and all it was a great game until the end when bwood "broke our serve" and took the advantage. They ran out the clock from there.

Shipley was simply unstoppable! He would do absolutely nothing until they called his number, we all knew what was coming, and we could not do anything about it.

Oh well we got a couple hour head start on the real season. Congratulations Brownwood!

1. We never win there
2. We lost to Marlin in 01 because we missed extra points which in my opinion led to us not winning the state championship
3. Today the 7 on 7 team could not make extra points and it cost us.

I have always heard that Brownwood plays with no class and is very cocky....I didn't believe it until I finally witnessed it today...after seeing the way they acted to Celina (who is a very classy team in fact) I began to believe it was true...and after cameron played bwood today...I saw just how cocky the lions were....i can't believe a team with so much potential can't show just a little bit of class...it should be embarassing to their program...but when it comes down to it...hats off to brownwood...they definitely have some athletes that can play...and good luck on the season...but better to luck to a classy Celina team

I could see and hear some of the things they were saying from the stands....it was just uncalled for...just an overall unclassy program who doesn't know how to take a victory without trash talking and downing their opponents after the game instead of simply shaking their hands and saying good game...I can now understand why all of the Celina kids approached our kids after their game begging our kids to beat brownwood...I didn't understand it until I saw the way they acted for myself

1. A team wins something big and celebrates and the other team gets there feelings hurt so that team is "big headed"
2. A team loses and knows they just weren't good enough to win shows "class" bc it didn't hurt as bad knowing they were overmatched.
3. If you expect every high school kid for a given town to win and lose with class you will be disappointed. There is not a team in the state that has 100% classy players

Well I know Cameron's coach very well, and if you don't play with total class as a Yoemen, then you don't play at all. At one point during the game against Lovejoy, his son threw an incomplete pass to end the half and got mad and chunked his mouthpiece. The head coach ran over to his son and told him that if he did anything even close to what he had done one more time that he would take him home right then and there. Rhoades accepts nothing but class or he doesn't accept you at all. But I do understand what your saying. I'm just saying that the Lions took it a little far with what they said and did, taunting the Yoemen after they played them one heck of a game. Celebrations are completely acceptable. But taunting?? In my eyes that is completely unacceptable

This is true, unlike Mullins a few years ago, Rhoades does believe in having discipline within the program. That is one thing this program had been lacking very badly but now is not a problem.

Wasn't at the touch football championships so I don't know what happened, why it happened, etc.... Don't have a dog in the fight. I do know that there are some coaching staffs that instill good traits of character, discipline, and sportsmanship in their teams. Win or lose.
I am not saying the Wood or whoever is a classless program. Coach Shipley is a great coach and I would suspect that if something was going on that he would correct his players actions.
The way players act are a reflection of their coaching staff. Just like the way kids act are a reflection of their parents.

There is more discipline needed in today's HS athletic world than ever before in my opinion.

I was at both the celina game and the yoe game. The incident with #4 was he was standing on the lions side of the ball listening to the celina play and a celina player crossed the ball and threw a hip into #4 at which time he grabbed the celina player and pushed him. That was all. All in all that was a good game and I didn't see or hear any banter between the players.

As for the yoe game, after the winning touchdown was scored the lions started celebrating because the clock was expired. I didn't see any taunting. These kids are very competitive and I haven't known them to be obnoxiously cocky.

Look, the game between us and Celina was as intense as a real game. Everyone was hot and tired. Tempers flared somewhat. I thought it was a good, clean, hard fought game. As for the Yoe game, we won with about 1 second on the clock. Why do the extra point, it didnt matter. Great game though. To bad some try to tear it down.

....and with that the combatants went to bed. This morning the sun came up and life goes on. I was not there but know that 64 teams came with the plan and hope to win it all. I watched the highlights on two different TV stations last night and saw a bunch of kids erupt in relief and joy on that last catch. My only worry was a possible injury when the dog pile started. I'm sure emotions were at a peak during those games, the last two really spiked it up. Some of those kids will never pass that way again.

Let them jump and celebrate. Congratulations to Yoe for making it a fight to the finish and congratulations Beast, hard work paid off.

I will admit to that...I think I did by making the statement. My point is this, don't point out other's lack of class and then say how great your class is. That is when one of your players will do something real stupid and make you look like a fool. Its trash whether you can back it up or not. The difference is some teams and players take it to far when they should just shut up, but to say that this team or that team is classless because of a little jaw jabbing is crazy. Tuanting and cussing raising the finger to the other team and their fans now that's classless. If I was a coach I wouldn't mind my players jaw jabbing a little to keep them fired up just not taking it to far.

In my opinion, mouthing off to the other team is unacceptable. Prove it on the field. That being said emotions do get in the way sometimes and words are said. It is very easy to tell which staffs support/allow the trash and those who don't. The incessant mouthing by some teams is an embarrassment to the game and the respective towns.

In my opinion, mouthing off to the other team is unacceptable. Prove it on the field. That being said emotions do get in the way sometimes and words are said. It is very easy to tell which staffs support/allow the trash and those who don't. The incessant mouthing by some teams is an embarrassment to the game and the respective towns.
I agree with what your saying, but their is a huge difference between two players jaw jabbing each other and an entire team being disrecpectable to another team that looks bad on the team and coaches, that has no place in sports.

Wasn't talking about ME. Give me a break. Talking about our players and some of the frustrations they have faced since dropping to 3A. Lack of defense in '08 and injury to our QB (MVP in 7 on 7 at the state tournament this year) in '09... It has been frustrating more for the players than the fans. This year Brownwood unleashes on 3A.

If brownwood is as good as everyone from brownwood is saying, they should have no trouble beating themselves earlier this year than when they beat themselves last year. Should be interesting to watch. If they aren't good enough to beat themselves, someone will end up stealing their glory. According to rocket it is hard to beat brownwood before they beat themselves.

We'll have to expect to hear a lot more from brownwood this year---if they do any good. They talked enough garbage even when their performances were mediocre. The best we can hope for is they have another disappointing year. If they do well, I suggest we create a separate website called the brownlow and watch them post--- kinda like watching monkeys throwing feces at the zoo...

You guys said the same thing would happen if we did good in 7 on 7. We did fine in 7 on 7 and all we hear is how unclassy we are. No one from from Bwd seems to be gloating like predicted. I'm not sure anyone in Brownwood (or most anywhere else) would consider their 2009 season "disappointing". :doh: Yes, it ended in a disappointing fashion, but didn't they go 3 rounds deep in the playoffs, after suffering through numerous injuries to key players? :thinking:

If all that equals a "disappointing year", you Celina folks must have been devastated last season. :D

Yes two and done was hard for celina. Devastating even for some. I will watch with great interest how these boys react. The bobcats seem quite a bit more motivated this year but only time will tell. We talk alot about being a top team every year cause we have been a top team every year for quite some time. I think Graylon Brown will be the MOST ACCURATE qb in 3A :cool: now for overall best, tough to pass Means and Manley. But if Brown can stay healthy and can run the ball :eek: watch out :D
