what is Lady GaGa's appeal??

I think she is a hell of a singer..it gets lost in all the dazzle of what she wears, but she can truly sing and does a great job putting her music together.

I had never even heard of her until she made a fool of herself at the Mets game.

I have never listened to anything she has recorded, but it seems like every time I turn around something is being said about her.

She just looks downright scary to me!!!

She is out there because of her clothes and things she says, but she honestly is one of the if not top singers today.

That is a hard one to answer without using words that will get me benched, but here goes!

She has a very agressive persona and does very outrageous stunts that make you wonder what she will do next. Not to mention have you seen the clothes she wears, if so you might want to tell her so she can put them on at her shows.

I agree when the makeup is off and the lights are clear she is not much, but when its show time she is all Ga Ga!:p :D

To me she's typical of most of today's entertainers, they are only about shock value. I wouldn't walk attend a free show she put on even if it was in my back yard.

She's a lyrical genius!

"Ahhh ahh, rama ma! Rah rah, ooh la la! Oooh la, ra gah gah"

Epic songwriting, right there!

I am sure she lipsyncs because everyone else does but she certainly has the ability to sing on stage where many artist today do not.

I don't think I can consider my children at 21, 22 and 24 "older people"....but, they like Texas Country so I guess I can see why Lady Gaga wouldn't appeal to them either.

I've heard enough of her on "clips" on TV.....she can have the best voice in the world, but I don't much care for that type of music, so it wouldn't appeal to me.

I am pretty much strictly Classic Rock and Country.

Her music is hit and miss for me, but more hit than miss I think. I didn't like her first single, but she grabbed me on "Pokerface" and then I loved "Papparazzi" so much I made it my ringtone for a while. I don't care for her dress or her theatrics, but she certainly seems to have struck a chord. And really, given what much of young Hollywood is famous for, I'd just as soon see kids singing silly lyrics like "Alejandro" than trying to emulate Lindsey Lohan or somesuch. Gaga really and truly does have a gorgeous voice IMO.

I should add that while I don't mind kids singing her lyrics, I sincerely hope her fashion doesn't take. Can you imagine kids trying to walk around in 8 inch platforms?

She is very edgy faddish right now. She is an above average singer but not great
as in Whitney Houston or Christina Aguilera. She will hit the wall if her material does not step up. Right now she is new fresh and different. But that can change. Public trends in fashion and music defy all logic and move on their own.

My kids can't believe that I listen to GaGa. I like most of her big hits like Pokerface, Bad Romance and Love Game but it's the lesser popular songs like Brown Eyes, Fever, Monster, and Speechless that I really like. I have all her music videos and at times she does things that don't really show her in her best light. But nobody, "NOBODY", can say she isn't one sexy lady in the Bad Romance video. And her vocals are probably the best out here right now with maybe Maria Carey being the exception. But that's my opinion!
Does anyone listen to Lily Allen very much? I find myself really liking her alot these days.

Sort of off topic, but when I was in high school my parents always hated the music I listened to, and my dad especially couldn't stand it. He couldn't understand any of the words or what was being said. To which I always responded, "Didn't you listen to songs like 'Ooo eee, oo ah ah, ting tang walla walla bing bang" and "a wop bop a loo bop a lop bam boom" when you were in high school?" I suspect every generation doesn't understand or care for the music of the next. So far I've been mostly able to keep current, but I will admit that I do not get the appeal of Justin Bieber.

If we raise our kids and try to keep an open mind it might surprise us just how good some of their music really is. I have my Ipod full of music that my boys turned me on to. My problem is it takes me a while to adjust. The newer music that I really like is usually not that NEW when I get around to liking it. I didn't listen to Sublime, Foo Fighters, Maroon 5 and many others when my oldest lived at home but now these groups are in my favs! I still am very slow on the uptake when it comes to hip hop or rap!

Foo Fighters are probably my very favorite group still together, although they don't put out new stuff very often. I like Sublime and Maroon 5 a whole lot too, although, again not much new stuff. For groups not still together, I'd number Fuel, Bush, Pink Floyd, Nirvana, and Led Zeppelin among the best. I have a VERY open mind when it comes to rock and pop. But I'm also very closed-minded about what I don't like, such as country and jazz. I think it's more a case of personal taste; we like what we like.

Not even close. She has copied the dance pop genre from the Australian/UK music scene. Think of Kylie and Dannii Minogue. They did this years before her.:nerd:

It's easy for something to catch on...when it's entirely different from everything you normally see and experience.

Many artists have taken advantage of being or not being the same old thing over and over again.

This Singer is a lot like Marlyn Mason.. very outrageous, but still talented enough to produce a great product.

Give this another year or 2 and the phase will calm down....of course by then, she'll be stinking rich.

Sorry, but I'm afraid not. I haven't ever heard of SlipKnot and I have an aversion to anything that uses God's name in a way He probably didn't intend. Not a very modern stance, I know, but there ya go. But name any Pink Floyd song ever and I can probably quote the rest of it. When I was in college I doodled song lyrics in the columns of my notebooks.

I did listen to Hole at the same time I was in love with Nirvana. That was pretty shocking where I come from...LOL

I loooove classic rock too. I was big into arena rock and hair bands in my waaaay back childhood, probably in reaction to what my dad listened to, which was oldschool country. I think that's where my aversion came from. He was always listening to the music of HIS childhood. I will admit to a liking for Lady Antebellum and I think Keith Urban is super-hot, but that's about it for me and country music.

You might be right. I know I had the same problem with the non-word parts of Bad Romance.
