America's Best Swimming Holes
Nature’s swimming pools are key to beating the summer heat. Fortunately, you’ll find them everywhere, from New York to California.

Here is one we can all get to easy enough.
The Blue Hole
Wimberley, Texas
http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/ee61/marlinkd/misc%20photos/TheBlueHoleWimberlyTexas.jpg
In Texas, swimming holes are synonymous with summer. And the Blue Hole in Wimberley is probably the quintessential example. If Hollywood wanted to cast a swimming hole, it would take its cues from this one. Grassy banks offer prime picnic spots. Old-growth bald cypresses dot the water, casting welcome shade from the blazing southern sun. The cool spring-fed pool hosts a veritable parade of inner tubes on the weekends, when Austinites flock to the hole for an afternoon of lazy floating. Up for a little more action? The three rope swings should do it.

Check out the site. All of these are amazing looking!!! Im gonna have to make it a point to visit some of these on my travels.

Apparently this guy may be one of Americas Best Swimming Holes.

I couldn't personally say, but that is the unsubstantiated rumor I heard.

Here's a site (http://www.friendsofbluehole.org/index.html) that talks about The Blue Hole and some upcoming plans they have for improvements.

Looks like a neat place. I might need to plan a visit there when we go to San Marcos for orientation (again...lol)

I would also like to try Hamilton Pool and Krause Springs.:)

It's just a few minutes drive to Wimberly from San Marcos. You should really make it a point to go down there for a visit while your close. I discoved Wimberly about 20 years ago, when it was still just a sleepy little town. Its commercialized and populated quiet a bit since then, but still a pretty cool place to visit. Never made it to The Blue Hole though. Also, while your there, its only a few miles to Dripping Springs and Salt Lick BBQ. Well worth the time to go out there for some good BBQ. Also, be sure to take The Devil's Backbone drive from Wimberly to Blanco. I thinks its one of the most beautiful drives in Texas. Just be careful and pay attention. They dont call it The Devil's Backbone for nothing.

Devil's Hole in Buchanan Lake at Inks State Park...near Burnet, TX

Great place to swim.

I used to go there when I was younger almost every other weekend.

lol...that photo must not do it justice.

It looks like what I might expect to see if water were found on Mars.

My love of science fiction is showing.;) :D

The Blue Hole is very nice for sure. It's not all that big, but it is definitely a typical Wimberley spot. We also have Jacobs Well, which is a real "hole" in a shallow creek that goes down about 25' straight down, with rocks surrounding it to dive from. It is absolutely crystal clear water all the way down...and cold as hell, even in the deep months of summer. A favorite of scuba divers for decades, but also a very dangerous place for scuba divers. I think at least 7 have died over the decades, because the well just keeps going and going, and its pitch black once you get past the initial 25' or so, and you must take off your tanks to pass into the depths. Scuba Diving isnt allowed anymore, but people still do it.

There are a couple of photos there that aren't for the "faint of heart" as in me.

   Caves above water don't bother me, but yikes, the thought of being in one underwater is rather terrifying.

True AP Panther! But remember, its open for about 25' down, so its a great spot to just "dip" into...you dont need to go down all the way! lol...COLD as hell too.
