I don't understand why they got that free kick? If the player hits the ball first don't they ignore it if he then trips the opponent?

Not if you truck over them after.

The U.S. just didn't have the striker play they needed for most of the tournament. Altidore and Findley both had chances to bury a couple and didn't get it done. That mixed with Tim Howard not playing his best game today hurt us.

US soccer is like that good girl who's you're friend that you've known most of your life and one night you see her at a party and she's lookin good and like shes gonna get crazy and you think she might give it a go around, but then as the night goes on you realize, "Oh crap, they were never gonna go all the way"

Something like that.

One thing that's worth remembering here is that the US played over 400 minutes in the World Cup (including injury time) and had a lead in... about three whole minutes of it.

You don't "go all the way" if you can't hold a lead for even 1% of the time you're on the field.

It is estimated that 17.1 M people watched the US vs UK soccer match while in the NBA game 7 this year it was estimated at 28.2 M viewers. What is remarkable was that the basketball game was in prime time while the soccer game was on a weekday from 10 A.M. to noon. Most impressive by soccer indeed!

US vs. England (not the UK) was on a Saturday at 1:30 PM central time...
