Do any states play 8 man ball anymore?

Yes, I know that Oklahoma and Nebraska still play 8 man. Thackerville OK (home of the Winstar Casino) played for the 8 man championship a couple of years ago.

I've definitely heard of these two but I wasn't sure where Apple Springs was. Trinidad is kind of on the edge of East Texas, too, now that I think of it. Union Hill could've opted to go six-man but they would've had to travel a lot more to find teams to play.

Of course Fruitvale is not exactly a suburb of anything either. I guess 6 man may become more popular in East Tx, there are a few more schools that could probably drop down if they chose.

Union Hill actually played Fruitvale there last year. The game was called at the half due to a transformer that burned up at halftime. They had no stadium lights, or any other lights for that matter. Talk about weird..... There was a fire truck there but they wouldn't touch it until the electric company showed up. There it was, on fire and dripping a firy liquid onto the grass under the pole. The fire department kept their eyes on the grass fire, but the game was called before the electric company got there. It was kind of eerie walking around in the dark.... I don't think the electric company even showed up before everybody left.
