2 year bowl ban and 20 scholarships...No wonder the Pac-10 needs to bring in the 6 from the Big 12. They may need a new flagship program for that conference.:D

As bad as this sounds, I wish this would hurt the conference just enough to keep the Big 12 together. USC is the best program by far in that conference and their punishment could cost the Pac 10 alot of money and power. Hopefully the money cost will make Texas think again about joining in the near future....

I dont think a 2 year ban for USC will make Texas think about not going to the new conference.

Well they didn't get the death penalty like SMU even though this is much more than a slip on the wrist. This is a lot more than Oklahoma got for the Big Red incident where records were destroyed.

So the NCAA actually grew a pair of balls and finally decided to punish an elite team for breaking the rules? Kinda hard to believe after all the slaps on the wrist they give good teams and really stick it to teams that can't fight the system as well.

My thoughts exactly.

As for this hurting the "Pac-16" idea, I don't think so. This is a two-year penalty and that penalty would be history by the time the Pac-16 would likely start play, I believe in the fall of 2012.

I read somewhere that there is a rule where if you are a junior/senior and you get put on a 2 year probation which is the rest of your athletic career at that institution you can transfer and play immediately without a waiver

Has anyone heard if USC would lose its mythical national championship from 2004? Might this make Auburn the 2004 champs?

I was just making the point that ESPN made this huge thing about a 3-peat of USC and now they will be left with ZERO championships over that same period. ;)

I'm imagining all the screaming that would be done here in Texas if USC beat the Horns in the 2006 Rose Bowl, all demanding that UT be declared the champs...

USC loses 30 football scholarships.

10 from each of the following years 2011, 2012, and 2013

Well the speculation that they were dirty has been confirmed by the investigators. As much as I enjoyed and still enjoy watching RBush run I do think that he should have to repay every dollar that his family got from his playing. It is tough for teenagers to turn down help for their families when boosters are offering to give big dollars to the cause. I think that NCAA should ban anyone who is implicated in this type of thing.

At least the Horns beat them, even when they were dirty.......

Maybe the "Pete the Wonderful coach" will die down since we now know he was coaching pros then too.

I also read that they are considering stripping Reggie Bush of his Heisman award. Thoughts?

Between this sort of thing and all the conference realignments driven by TV money and not the educational mission, I'm increasingly agreeing that big-time college athletics should lose their tax-exempt status except for whatever money they plow back into the school's general fund and perhaps to the non-revenue sports. I fought that idea for a long time but it's getting harder and harder to pretend that big time college football and men's basketball are more about the educational mission than about big money.

Hope this makes them an even lousier team this year:

Juniors and seniors to-be on the USC Trojans' football team, hit with a two-year postseason ban among other punishments, will be allowed to transfer to other FBS programs without having to sit out a season, the NCAA clarified to ESPN on Friday.
