Hondo 7 on 7

Rumor has it that Hondo is hosting a 7 on 7 tourney. But i dont see it posted on official 7 on 7 site. Is it true they are hosting tourney, whats the date? Any word on teams attending?

Hondo is hosting a SQT on June 19, it is posted on the state site.

thats what i was thinking, tarleton sqt pools already have two teams qualified, so really only 2 team pools. only thing, the more teams the more money for 7 on 7 org. i dont know if theyll send refs for that small a tourney. just dont know whats the hold up.

They will have refs, and they have 7 teams. Leakey and Cuero dropped and Sabinal got added. I anticipate them being released today.

The small school tournaments in the south have been nothing short of a nightmare. I think expanding to 64 teams has been HORRIBLE.

Tatum, Rockdale, Normangee and Cuero all decided they didn't want to host SQTs anymore.

So now the people in south are scrambling trying to find alternate sites for these tournaments in mid-May right before 7 on 7 starts.

So they put tournaments at Hondo, Wimberley, Lexington and Hitchcock to fill them.

Lexington filled just fine.

Hondo well we know..

Wimberley just has 4 teams, so I dont know what they are gonna do.

Hitchcock just has 4 teams also!

Then two weeks ago New Waverly said THEY couldn't host....so they moved their tournament to Caldwell....well Caldwell said they never agreed to host so thats toast.

Then I forget how Bellville has a tournament for next week but I would imagine their tournament won't make either....

To top it all off Hidalgo is supposed to host a small school tournament this week and they have a total of 3 teams signed up....

I think the UIL has caused some for sure, but IMO the State Board expanded to 64 before the state was ready...the North has been OK other than Abilene Wylie having some trouble every tournament has had at least 8 teams. In fact several have gone to 15.

In the southern part of the state forwhatever reason 7 on 7 isn't as big and it hasn't been as much interest. I think it was poor planning to expand so fast.

I guess i can't complain either, Bandera decided not to host this year as well. U I L had everything to do with it. As for the south, it's quite aways to college station for most, money is tight all around as well as getting everyone together over the summer.

It's quite a ways to College Station for people like Snyder and Seminole as well.....I can't really put my finger on whats up in the south honestly.

it's largely 7 on 7's fault the uil is cracking down....were having to be really careful with our summer leagues and i know some places decided not to have summer leagues because of all of the attention

The two pool winners will qualify for state..they will have a mini tournament for third place...that team will go into a drawing with the state board for one of at least 2 spots in the state tournament.

Thanks Hondo!!!!! I think bbfan 2010 means is thanks hondo for pulling this tourney together. both pools are tuff, will be intresting to see who comes out on top. not sure, but i think this is the first time for some of these teams to compete in a SQT.

Somerset and Hondo two best teams by far. Stevie Dorman 6'4" 220 is one of the best QB in the state along with Wake Forest Commit and has something like 15 offers FS Will Harlos 6'4" 4.4 205 WR Jacob Hillyer 6'4" 200 4.5 77 catches last year WR John Guerra 6'2" 185 4.5 Hondo has their hands full with those guys. Those guys chunk the ball around and have guys that will go get it. They just competed in the Red Bull tournament on Tuesday made the final four. They lost to Warren by one point which won the tournament. So should be a good tournament

Not sure. I saw them play Tuesday and Warren had to double cover Hillyer and he still caught the ball and tore Warren up. I have never seen someone DBL a rec in 7 on 7. I just thought the kids they had were big and fast and ran really good routes and caught everything. Hillyer is impressive with what he did against some of the best 5a talent in the San Antonio area.

Somerset rolls through it. Only scored on 3 times. Pretty good football players there from what i saw today

Bandera picks Dorman 4 times in 13 to 26 loss in the championship game. Hillyer is impressive, is their go to guy. Somerset made adjustments Bandera could not counter.

Your right 26-13 you guys caught that one lucky pass way up in the air.. You had three picks and they had three picks so it evened out. You did not get but maybe one first down the second half. Yeah that should not happen in 7 on 7 you got shut down on offense. You guys played well on defense to only give up 4 TD's to a really good team.

you must be reading more into game than what i saw. obviously your biased, i was giving somerset credit where credit was due, state will be different, doing well in a 5a tourney doesnt impress me much, ive always felt 3a could play with any 5a. why not get some more practice in at wimberely next week. anyway let me say it again somerset was and is the better team, way more speed and talent, need to be a little more humble with their success, let their play do the talking. good luck at state!

I am from LaVernia. I was at the game watching Somerset becuase if we make the playoffs and they do we will play them. My son plays for LaVernia and we wanted to see them play again. My voice was unbiased.

Lv doesnt play 7 on 7? why not get first hand experience on how yall would match up? why wait till playoffs? just felt you were biased by saying "lucky catch" we had several drives inside 15 that ended with int or over on downs. you cant say something shouldnt happen in 7 on 7 if your not a part of it. and yes i said we couldnt counter with the adjustments. we tried going man and got burned even worsein the second half, which Somerset only scored once in second half as well.
