How can you have half of a student?I think it has to do with special ed.

If my memory serves correct, special ed kids aren't counted in the school population. The .5 comes from those schools who 'share' academic's w/ other schools (Such as in Bridge City, some students spend some classes in BC and some at WO-S, Orangefield, etc) Therefore, you get half student because they're at one school half and the other school half. I believe that's what I was told it was quite a while back.

that sounds to reason.

So if that student is a football player, does that mean he can only play half of the game? :p :p :p :p

938.5 comes from the fact the UIL has some sort of formula in determining ADM...it simply isn't the # of students at the school on a specific day...

I guess it's the same as the American family having 2.5 kids!!????

I thought that the UIL takes a snap shot enrollment in October and receives the schools enrollment for the month and if the number varies too much then they work out some weird formula to determine the average amount of students to be used for enrollment.

nod onfirebball05mustang, Matthew stated that it's not a true number, but it really is. They do take a snap of students on a certain day and that is the number reported to the UIL. I know WO-S was dropping students left & right a few weeks before the numbers were to be turned in, who wasn't showing up to school or hasn't shown up to school in months, with no reasons. I don't think the UIL has any formulas to determine the ADM's at all, just what the schools turn in to them.

i believe the .5 number is for the number of students that attend only half of a day due to the work program. therefore 19 students in 'work program' would be 9.5 students.

too many opinions...don't they just tell us somewhere what the real reason is...all of these sound probable and plausable...c'mon 9am
