story!

Lubbock program director accused of theft.

A program director for Stars 97.3 (KLZK-FM)
Lubbock has been indicted and arrested on theft
charges for allegedly manipulating listeners
into donating money for needy persons that was
allegedly pocketed, according to a report by
FOX34 (KJTV) Lubbock.
Charles Joslin – also known as “Chuck Dakota” –
has been accused of defrauding radio stations
and listeners in other Texas communities, but no
one pressed charges in those cases.
“We ran a pre-hire background check and nothing
showed up,” said Brad Moran, President of Ramar
Communications which owns KLZK and KJTV.
Moran told KJTV that Joslin, 38, would lure his
audience with signed footballs, concert tickets
and other prizes that turned out to be fake.
In April 2008, the Herald Banner newspaper in
Greenville reported that Joslin was manager of
two radio stations there that allegedly raised
funds for the local United Way chapter but never
delivered the contributions to the charity.
An executive with Cumulus Media which owned the
stations told the Herald Banner then that Joslin
was terminated before the police investigation
was concluded.
The following month, the newspaper reported
Joslin was arrested and charged with felony
theft after being accused of stealing a check
written to purchase jukeboxes. When he was taken
into custody on that charge, he also was
arrested on an outstanding theft warrant in
Waco.
“I’d like my fellow broadcasters to be aware of
the risks each time we allow a new employee on
the air,” Moran said.
The Lubbock County district attorney can be
contacted at 806-775-1164.
