Any of you ever buy homemade tamales from local tamale vendors? Our building has a lady and her daughter who come around each week and sell some really good ones. In the Hispanic sections of our town there are ice cream vendors selling from push carts. Never tried any of their stuff yet.

we buy tamales from this lady from the Kenedy area. She comes by the office twice a month. Used to be $3.50 a dozen - they've gone up to $7 a doz now.. but they are good.

They are usually the best you can buy Bull. Give em a try. I seriously doubt there is anything too funky in them.

Since we are in an economic dip, why not make $ off those who are not here legally and use that to balance the books? Cover charge to the US? Weekend pass for 1 person? $20.00. 2 people $35.00. 3. Family $40.00. Rates vary for duration of stay....

Have a good weekend.

My neighbor and I learned to make tamales from my son, the chef. We get together and make them once or twice a year. Spicy, lots of pulled pork, mmmm!

Yep, the Oil Spill Thread was completely ruined.

I bet if you started a thread "Weekend Plans" it would turn political.

Granny's Tamales stops by my place of employment regularly... not bad when you need a tamale fix.

I have a Hispanic friend that told me the ice cream those guys sell is some of the best ice cream you'll ever eat... but I've never tried it.

Has anyone tried the ice cream?

I've bought tamales several times from different local vendors, Bull, and I've never been disappointed. But I've never tried any of the ice cream carts.
