Points are scored for each charge received by players. (Players must be on the team roster at the time of the offense). The scoring for the Fulmer Cup is imprecise — murder is 5 points, rape, bestiality, and grand larceny are 4 points, assault et al. are 3, drug possession et al. are 2, and misdemeanors are 1 point.[2]

In order to be eligible to win the Fulmer cup, a school must have more than one player charged. In other words, a school may not win the cup on the basis of a single player's criminal record. This is known as the Ellis T. Jones III rule, after the San Jose State wide receiver who in 2006 was charged with 13 felony counts, including robbery, assault, and kidnapping; accumulating 31 points.

I am not excusing the behavior whatsoever but....I wonder what the percentage of non-athletes who are being arrested for DWI (or anything else) compared to the percentage of athletes being so arrested? My guess is non-athletes have a higher percentage of arrests

Wouldn't you agree that collegiate athletes are held to a little higher standard than us DL'ers? They are playing at a premiere college program, not to mention getting their school paid for.

So what you are saying is that because we are at home taking care of families that we are dis-included from responsibility of not driving a 4000 pound weapon while not in control of my senses.
There is no such difference. None at all. We all play by the same rules. Those guys are no different then you and me and buy and large they are more disciplined and less likely to mess around with their ride. But there are always exceptions and bad apples.

No, what I am saying is that these guys are expected to be role models for younger athletes, students, etc. As much as we like to think differently, these athletes are looked at as super stars, we are not. They are under a microscope, so when they screw up, the consequences are USUALLY a bit more harsh than when you or I screw up. They get put on sportsillustrated.com, suspended from games, lose scholarships, etc. The ONLY thing we have in common with them is the legal issues that result...

I hate the whole athlete is role model argument. Be your own kids role model and set an example and teach them right from wrong and you don't have to worry about them following a bad example. Besides you think an average kid that looks up to athletes even has a clue that Texas 5th string running back got a DWI I doubt it.
