Great game Sinton Pirates!!! Good luck against Robstown on Friday.

Friday night should be a good one, but first we need to handle AP tomorrow night.

If last weeks rotation repeats itself, then it should be Velasquez on Friday.

But I have heard a few birdies say that Robstown will be using a three man rotation for district.

If that were the case then look for Marroquin tomorrow night against AP and Flores on Friday.

Any way you look at it there is gonna be a left handed pitcher on the mound for Robstown on Friday.

should be a playoff type atomsphere just like last year this friday. Most likely Sinton is using a 2 man rotation and will pitch left hander Anthony Banda. Next option could be freshman pitcher but it'll come down to defense for either team that will most likely determine the winner.

CORPUS CHRISTI — Even one error can be too many to overcome against the Sinton baseball team.

Seven errors are sure to almost always lead to certain disaster — especially when the Pirates are on offensively.

Sinton ace Shane Segovia held mistake-prone Mathis to only three hits and blasted a two-run homer to pace Sinton in a 17-2 victory Monday night at Whataburger Field. Sinton improved to 3-0 in district and joined Robstown as the only unbeaten in 31-3A, while Mathis dropped to 1-0.

Three errors by Mathis, along with two singles, in the top of the second allowed Sinton to take a 5-0 lead. Mathis cut the deficit to four runs in the bottom half of the inning, but Sinton responded by scoring eight runs on three errors and three hits — including the homer by Segovia — in its next trip to the plate.

“Anytime you win a district game and you play outside your own ballpark you have to be happy, but it was, honestly, pretty ugly base ball all the way around,” said longtime Sinton coach Gene Kasprzyk, whose team committed four errors. “(Mathis starting pitcher Seth Wieland) is normally pretty sharp, but he got behind hitters and that hurt him. We took advantage of that and they made a few miscues in the field. It just got away from them.”

It didn’t help that Sinton had so much success swinging the bat.

Sinton finished with 12 hits, four of which went for extra bases.

In addition to Segovia’s home run, Ram Espinoza hit a solo shot in the fourth to almost the same spot in left field. Anthony Banda had a two-run triple in the third and Ramsey Rivera a double in the first.

Jake Davenport and Corey Ring each had two hits for Sinton, while Ring, DeRick Castro and Trey Gallegos each scored three runs. Although Kasprzyk liked the production, Sinton has plenty to work on.

“We swung the bat pretty well at times, but we still have to play better defense,” Kasprzyk said. “We made a few errors, and that can come back to haunt you in close ballgames. When you win like we did tonight you have to be pretty happy, I guess.”

Wieland, Gabriel Alvarado and Cody Thomas had the three hits for Mathis, including an RBI single by Thomas that scored Anthony Bandy. Edward Alvarado accounted for the other run.

The lack of offense isn’t what concerned Mathis coach Rey Cardona.

“It was a brutal night, too many errors,” Cardona said. “You can’t beat good teams making that many errors. We had more errors than hits. That’s not how we envisioned tonight going for us.”

Whew! That was close - much closer than the score indicates.
And even then by the scoreboard it was still close for a while there. Don't be fooled.
