We just had a coaching change at the high school that I work at and along with a few new faces came a few rules for the coaching staff. One of these rules is that coaches are not allowed to have any facial hair. It doesn't apply to me personally, mostly because mine is all grey, but it has caused some unrest in our office among those who have a goatti (sp??) or the chin whiskers. Your thoughts.....?

THSCA has something about that in their guidelines so to say. They allow a mustache and that is it...Not a law but recommended.

I think coaches should be required to grow an extremely long beard for slapping players with when they mess up.

I think as long it is kept neat and groomed, I think it is ok. Are clean shaven coaches better coaches. I have work on both kind of staffs.

I think its discrimination to make male coaches shave when there are a good amount of female coaches with facial hair as well:D

I've been in both situations and I think I coach better with facial hair;{

I would do what the boss wants or find another job.

Maybe some unrest is what's needed...tell 'em to get on board or jump ship. I doubt shaving is the toughest thing he'll ask of 'em.

No different than not cussing, not wearing shorts in the classroom, driving a bus, working on Sundays, not dipping in the fieldhouse, helping host athletic events or going to regional meetings.

Doesn't mean you're a better/worse coach, but if they don't want to do it, there are plenty of head coaches to work for that will let you have as much fun with facial hair as you can stand.

I do have a spring break shadow right now, but I'll be shaved up in the morning.

Seems stupid to me. I'd be more concerned about how good they do their job, than a trivial matter of facial hair.

I think facial hair as long as it is well groomed is fine.

If the coach wanted to wear a~edited~ clown outfit to practice it would be fine with me. Facial hair.... no facial hair....will have no outcome on how he or she coaches, only to those that judge another from that stand point. IMO To many you cant do this beacuse of that B.S. these days and this is just another example.

I am sure it has something to do with past, bad experience. Our whole dress code is basically designed on what employees that we have terminated dressed and groomed.

People with facial hair haven't made the list....yet.

Personally, I am not a fan of facial hair, but if you have it, it should be neat and trimmed.

I do believe that faculty should have to abide by whatever dress code is in place for the students. This isn't just for facial hair either - it could pertain to piercings, skirt length etc... jmho

I looked that term up just now. "Wow" is right. Learn something new every day.

Let's keep the discussion clean folks. I'm getting really tired of multiple people quoting board inappropriate posts. This is one of the reasons good threads go away.

Worked for two different places with two different rules. At Plainview, mustaches were ok, and that was it.

At my current job, as long as it is neat no one says anything.
