Today-Thursday: A unique rapid-fire small intense tournament has started. This tournament has a selection of the best teams with good pitching depth invited-to play a grulling tournament where all of the teams are quite elite!... Kelly-State Finalist TAPPS, Lumberton #11 4A; Santa Fe #8 4A ;Sulphur LA, #2, in Louisiana; Bridge City #8 3A; Port Neches-Groves #4 4A; Hamshire-Fannett, in the top 20 3A....At 7:00 pm tonight, Bridge City and PN-G hookup for a long awaited contest. This type rapid pace tournament is to test your Pitching depth against good competition It just might be the wave of the future to set up something like "The Minefield" for teams that really choose to test their entire Pitching staff against serious contenders. I look for other elite invitation small Tournaments like this, to popup across the State next year.

"The Minefield" Tournament---Hampshire-Fannett 4 Kelly 0; Hamshire-Fannett 3 Lumberton 0. In the third game, it was Santa Fe 4 Kelly 0 in the 4th inning....It's kind of interesting, Santa Fe was ranked as high at #2 in 4A, till Bridge City popped them with a 5-1 win, last weekend. BC, also whipped a top 10 ranked Nederland 4A team 9-3, in the same tournament....BC has a hard time playing 4A Lumberton-if they pitch their ACE, Clay Buckholtz. Clay can play ball just as well as his Father Skip Buckholtz use to play. Next game will be a stout, Sulphur Golden Tornado, Louisiana vs Santa Fe. The big shoot out will be Bridge City vs PN-G at 7:00 pm. Pn-G has been ranked anywhere from #4 to #1 in various 4A rankings....Hamshire-Fannett, the only team not ranked somewhere in the top ten is again proving that Polls don't mean a whole lot: H-F can beat most of the 3A rated teams, in my humble opinion. That's why they can hold their own in a Good Tournament situation like "The Minefield". Coach Moore was right in inviting H-F to this little tournament, they can hold their own!

Two good games tonight Sulphur, LA beat Santa Fe 5-4 in a solid game. In the next game Bridge City had a solid 5-0 score in the 4th inning, only to commit 5 glaring errors-- and PN-G on unearned errors came out a winner by a score of 6-5.

"The Minefield" Tournament came to a close at 9pm Saturday night with Bridge City prevailing over the Sulphur, Louisiana "Golden Tornados", by a score of 5-4. Broc Haymon a big Freshman for BC, was the winning pitcher. Broc had a great tournament series on the mound. The competition was so evenly matched that the teams involved traded many wins and loses throughout the various games.

Congratulations, Bridge City. Bring that trophy home to 3A.
