Any birds in particular or just a good all around shotgun?

For reliability, I just love the Remington Wingmaster, I have three of 'em, a 28, 20 and 12 gauge. For dove I swear by the 20 ga. For all around the 12, with all available choke tubes, it can do everything you need!

Step up in price and the Remington 1100 and Benelli semi-autos sure are sweet!

Ive always stuck with a 12 pump action. Everytime Ive hunted with a semi-auto the damn thing jams without fail.

I've actually been looking for a good used wingmaster in 12g.

Remington 870 Express 12 ga. pump. Only thing a semi-auto is good for is burning lots of shells.

Have you liked the express? I've heard they don't compare to the wingmaster.

I've never used a wingmaster, but have never had any problems with the Express even shooting reloads.

Good, the express is about half the price, I saw a really clean used one in a pawn shop and he told me he would give it to me for $180 out the door. I almost took him up on it but I wanted some other opinions.

For that price, I don't see how you can go wrong.

The 870 Express definitely will! Excellent choice and very reliable. Same gun as Wingmaster without the pretty bluing and checkering. If you are patient you should be able to find one new for right at $200 as they almost always go on sale for that price in August. I'd rather pay the extra $20 or so for new rather than from a pawn shop, you don't know where that gun has been!:D

Stay with the pump even if you shoot reloads.

Reasonably priced go with a Benelli. Price not an issue go with a Galazan. Bargain basement cannot go wrong with the Remington 870. You can find them for around 150 if you look hard.

Do you have to have a license to own a shotgun?

No.
or a pistol or rifle...
This is Texas.

You have to have a license for a shotgun in England though.

Yes, even though Zack can hit traps 4X more than I can, it IS the guns fault.:nerd:

I went to the Pasadena Gun Show and found a Colt "Coltsman" Pump 16ga. shotgun. Didn't even know Colt had ever made shotguns. Apparently from what I've read, they only made them from 1961 to 1965 and only 2000 were made in 12, 16, and 20 guages. I read that were only 400 of the 16 ga. made.

16 ga. used to be very popular but kinda died out after the 60's. When you can find ammo now it runs around 14 to 15 bucks a box. .410 ammo is up there too.

For a 20 ga. pump, Mossberg has a really good one. I've had one for about 25 years and used it extensively until I got my 12 ga. My son has it now. If you buy new these days, you'll be lucky to find a pump under $300.00. Mossberg has a beauty of a .410 pump for around $309.00 at Bass Pro Shop. The Remington 870 Express comes in a 20 ga. also and is an excellent shotgun.
