I hate Rick Reilly.

When is Houston ISD gonna step in and fire him? Never. He wins championships and no matter what anyone says that's the most important thing a coach can do.

Winning is the most important thing you can do to keep your job, but it is far from the most important thing a coach can do esp. at the high school level.

This is only one man's opinion but if I were coaching against him and he was running up the score we would use every foul we had. If I had 12 kids on the bench we would use at least 55 fouls, hard ones. The only reason we would not use 60 is that everyone cannot foul out. When you get down to 1 player the game is called. If that coach wanted to set a scoring record against my team, he would have to do it at the free throw line. It would be one extremely long and boring game.

That would be painful to watch or very funny. I think that would be teaching the kids that because we can't play competitively we foul as a sign of frustration for poor execution.

Play to win. Play with class. KISS.

The main problem there is that it would give the fans more time to stock up on ammo for the post-game parking lot shootout...;)

this is my Jimmy Johnson school of coaching. "If you dont want me to rub it in your face then stop me from scoring" school of coaching. IMO the truly great coaches are hard nosed but can exhibit class when called for. Sometimes games can get outta hand and the coach has a hard time holding back the reigns but in this case its just "look at me and see how great I am"

My guess is that he would eventually stop pressing. The point would be to force him into doing the unthinkable...stop humiliating kids. I have never understood a grown man's desire to completely humiliate 16 and 17 year olds. I would certainly be conceding that his team was better than mine and I had no answers for what they were doing. Taking an arse kicking without using terrorist tactics is laying down...we would not.

He thinks he is a G! I bet if he rolled into Houston with that attitude he would get shot as soon as he rolled up to that school!

I have to agree with the part about calling time out to stop the clock so that you can score 100 is a classless act. I might just pull my team off the court and forfeit the game, no that would be classless of me.

How about inbound the ball after they score and just shoot at their basket to help them get there faster?

Hey coach, if you want to score 100 or beat us by 100 plus, let us help!

this would definitely be one of those times where, if i were coach, my team would NOT be shaking hands after the game.

If it's 100-12 at half, you've already won the game.

I watched the first half of the Yates/Colony semi final game streaming live and I dont remember one offensive or defensive set. It seemed like it was all run and gun.

I like the way you think. Don't let them have the satisfaction and prove a point at the same time.

Yates shmates! WOS came within 5 minutes of beating them in the 5A Football playoffs in 1985. We had them tied 6-6 midway through the 4th Quarter with a large lead in penetrations and they scored two TDs late in the game. I'll admit they had a good team but I'd put North Shore '03 WAY ahead of them in the all-time rankings.

This year's basketball team is low-class all the way IMO

Purposely setting out to break State and National records is completely against what the UIL is all about. Good sportsmanship is mentioned somewhere in the original charter I believe actually.

That was a hell of a team. I was on the Woodlands sidelines for the 5A-DI final that year and North Shore was freakin' impressive...

There are many a football team that could've scored 100 points in a game recently.

Gilmer, Carthage and even WO-S could've done it last season easily against certain opponents, but they didn't. They would have been lambasted if they had, and for good reason. How is this any different?

I'm all for winning, but when the game is in hand let the apponent dictate the action. Take ball downcourt and then stand there, if they want to pressure you then score, if not ,stand and let time run off clock.

These are things I think people get WAY WAY to stirred up about. The kids losing by those big scores are not going to be scarred for life, not going to fall in depression and not going to have a terrible life because they got beaqt by 80 points.

Not defending the coach, honestly just saying WHO CARES. Why do we as a society sit in judgment over the smallest things and then get into such an uproar
