Not shocked in the least. Shocked he lived this long with his various drug habits.

Not unexpected but still very sad. Yet another example of why children and Hollywood are rarely a good combination.

See kids, when your mom/dad/coach/teacher tells you that drugs kill people we know what we're talking about. I know that you're thinking "Man, it's only a little pot," but pot leads to other stuff and other stuff kills you dead. Stay clean and live a long, good life with kids and grandkids.

Very true, a former friend of mine, from a pretty "well to do" family started with a little drink, then a little smoke, then a little snort, then a little needle. His father lost everything...business, home and ultimately his life (massive heart attack in his 40s) trying to keep this young man out of prison to no avail. This kid had the money, looks and the personality to have any girl he wanted in high school, but now he is being "punked out"(no joke) in prison and that is what drugs can do to you also. Dude had everything and blew it!!

I don't advocate illegal drug use, but to say if you smoke pot you will turn into a full fledged drug addict is ludicrous.

I know several people who smoke pot on a regular basis, and that is the only drug they do.

Not MY preferred choice, but they are grown men and women with successful careers, nice home and families.

Well I was told while growing up that if you puffed it you would more then likely kill your brother:D , but not sister.

While it's true that your children will not look like melted Barbie dolls if you have smoked pot you will not find a crack head, **** freak or other hard drug user who will not tell you they started with pot.
As far as the grown men and women with successful careers....well good for them just don't come crying to me when their life and career gets turned upside down after getting busted. I'm sure they know the ramifications of getting caught.

That is like saying someone who started eating candy bars as a kid will automatically become obese

most start with pot simply because it is readily avaliable for a cheap price almost everywhere.

When the crack craze was hitting New York in the 80's it was so cheap it became the starting drug for most..again not because of a gateway, but it was avalible and cheap.

And your right about being busted..real sad that in the "land of the free" You can go to jail for doing something in the privacy of your own home that is not directly hurting anyone else

I'm not trying to get in an arguement just telling you what I have seen. I recall in collage my friends rolling joints and peering out the windows watching for the boogie man. I left and never went back.
I drive a lot of roads where there is nothing but me and the buzzards. While I think it is OK to go 80 I know what will happen if I meet a trooper.
I made a decision early in life that I was not going to be peering out the window.

Many of the founding fathers notated in letters their pleasure in smoking *********, Including Washington, Madison, Monroe, Jefferson & Andrew Jackson.

So if this is the case, then one can assume our country, the declaration of independence, the constitution, the whole idea of the way we live today was thought up during some drug induced delusion. It was only the need for the founding father to continually run out to the local colony store for Nachos to cure the munchies that prevented things from happening quicker.

Not that I would need to cry anyway, it wouldn't effect me or my immediate family anyway!!!

There's me a good vice. Get me to the casino, give me some of them free Crown and diet Cokes and provide me with someone to drive the elevator for me to get to my room and I'll show you a good time.

apples oranges....one man blazes away and then pops a butter tub of corn in the old micro the kicks back puts the rest up and buckles in for a none stop 3 hour ride of laughter, fun and munching.... then on to bed...no victim no crime.

Dude has sex with his 15 year old sister.....the "Victim" in this case, doesnt matter if it was in his own home, there still is a victim...this is not a victimless crime as the above is.

There is a victim in consenual sex?

Heres is what makes the two cases related, they are both against the law.

There is a victim in consensual sex if one of the 'consenters' in a minor. A minor is not able to make a fully informed decision about whether or not to consent.

If they are both minors there is no crime committed. Its still a horrible mistake in my opinion, and there are moral, ethical, psychological, and sometimes physical ramifications, but there no legal consequences.

I think the cart's being put before the horse in this thread. It's been reported that he was prescribed, Vicodin, Soma (muscle relaxer), Valium and an anti psychotic days before his death. Corey had publicly comented about taking 80 Valiums a day at one point in his life. Seems extremely unwise for a doctor to prscribe that many meds at one time to a known drug abuser.

I'm sorry that this thread got hijacked and spun into what it has become. Drugs are illegal for specific reasons. I felt this thread was a perfect opportunity to possibly shed a little light on something that is becoming more and more widespread amongst our youth. I actually expected a little more support from the older/wiser members of this board in my attempt to educate the younger members of the board, but I guess the laissez faire general attitude of minor illegal drug usage spreads wide and far. I'm rather disappointed by this as all that chose to make an argument against my position essentially are telling our younger members that it's ok to smoke out, just don't get caught, and not to worry about it leading to other drugs in the future. :dispntd: :dispntd: :dispntd:

I think 16 is the age of consent in Texas, and I also think you can be tried as an adult at that age. Perhaps that's why...? I don't really know. To be honest, I have a bigger problem with the brother/sister angle than the age.

Great point!! prescription drug use by teenagers is at a alltime HIGH.

So I'll take this tragic death, the great feedback from the topic, and use it to talk with my children about the hazards of the numerous government controlled prescription drugs with LF50 ratings that will cancel a Rhino's Christmas, and that have taken so many human lives. The ones listed as prescribed in Corey's case all sound uneeded, only wanted and very accessable. I'm sorry for another family that lost a loved one into the prescription drug trap so many pharmacuticals want you in and the government sadly allows, pushes and accepts because of its insane outdated agenda/policies.:(

My children will thank me for this.

I don't talk a lot about organizations I am involved with.....but I must admit the "legal" prescription drugs are a heck of a lot scarier, to me anyway, than pot!!!

Those drugs, Adderall, Lortab, etc. seem to be the "drug of choice" to the younger set around here and they are a HUGE problem.

Hell, you could find relation between energy drinks and amphetamines. ********* is not a gateway drug, most users of it never go into harder drugs, whereas users of harder drugs have tried *********. The relationship isn't bidirectional.
