Congratulations Eagles, It was apparently a lot closer tonight than what any of us would have expected. Good luck on the rest of the season. We have a tougher district than one would have expected.

Sounds like K-ville had a great game. Would have love to see you win. Keep up the good work.

Hey Snake, yeah those kids played their hearts out and never gave up. They came up short but they showed lots of heart. That was the best game I have seen in a few years. Coach Alvarez is building a good program and the Wildcats should continue to be a force and not just an automatic win like in years past.

FYI--newtonnews.com posts the scores as they happen on Friday nights for the Newton Eagles and Burkeville Mustangs (1a). This might help the Newton County fans unable to attend the games.

St. I, we came out fired up and scoring. Scored on 1st play from scrimmage. Kick failed. Then recovered Cats fumble and scored again quickly. 2 point conversion failed. Then it was a blur for me until the third quarter!!! The Cats made us work. Ty was injured and didn't play, but as you know, we have plenty of running talent. I was anxious from the beginning - knew the Cats would be formidable I hope the Cats make the playoffs. Have they played Diboll?

Kirbyville has Diboll and Woodville remaining on their schedule while Newton has Diboll and Huntington. It's still up for grabs for second and third place in the district. Newton and Diboll have the advantage with only one district loss apiece, but I wouldn't count out the cats.

Congratulations Newton. Good luck Kirbyville. Just win from here on out and you both will be in the playoffs, or so it would seem to me. :)

It was a great and hard earned game. Newton basically walked their first two tochdowns in with little resistance. After that Newton got the big head and thought that Kirbyville would be a bunch of push overs, and that is when Newton almost got beat. Once Newton pulled their stuff together at halftime we came back to win the game. My hat is off to Kirbyville. Good luck with the rest of your games.

I was one out of two on my predictions. No it wasn't a blowout like I thought it would be, but Tremayne Keyes didn't have his 100 yards rushing. Kirbyville had a total of 114 yards rushing and 53 of those were from Quincy Cotton. Kirbyville had a total of 203 yards to Newton's 413. Not a bad showing by the Eagles but I would like to see them make fewer mistakes and cut out the fumbles. JMHO

My hat's off to the eagles. It was a fight to the end. For those who were not there, you sure missed an exceiting game. Good luck to both teams with the rest of your games.
