The USSR??

The Evil Empire, The Darkside, The Great Satan. It just made the Olympics that much more fun to beat the hell out of the Ruskies in anything. If the team didn't get it done well you knew 4 years later it would be talked about and that the American men or women would certainly prevail this time.

Ahhh....the good ole days.

I have a similar feeling about China that I once felt for the Russians(still have a slight disdain), but the Chinese are doing very similar things to the USSR.

China is probably the closest or maybe Germany, but it is just not quite the same yet. Hockey is just not the same without the Big Red Machine.

yeah i'd say china is the new ussr. not that they are really that big of a threat in the winter olympics...but they are in the summer games.

You used to able to hate Cuba in boxing, but now boxing is such an unwatchable joke. Maybe we will find a new rival. I would even settle for a Tonya v Nancy story. Just need some spice.
