I went to Camp Wood a few years ago and stayed in a little campground. My family wants to go back there, but I can't seem to remember the name of the campground.

It was small and was on the Nueces river. There was a dam that the kids swam off of and across the lake/river we dove off of some cliffs.

Does anybody around there happen to know what campground this might be. I remember where we camped there was a huge tree that had kinda grown along the ground.

I remember we made reservations the first time, and wanted to make sure there were gonna be some spots open - I just don't know who to call!!

Thanks in advance!!

Could it be:

Choke Canyon
Garner State Park
Inks Lake

I'm almost positive the Nueces runs through Choke Canyon Lake.

There is also a KOA campground just north of Mathis on I37(inlet to Lake Corpus Christi), and there is the State Park at Lake Corpus Christi(south of Mathis just above the dam). Choke Canyon is also a State Park. RangerMom, do you remember the closest town?

Oh, you DID say Camp Wood. The only ones I know of in that area are Garner State Park and Lost Maples Park ( or Wilderness Area, something like that).

I don't remember the closest town. Is Camp Wood a town?? I know it wasn't Garner State Park, because while we were there we went tubing on the Frio, and went right down the middle of Garner.

The campground we stayed at was really small. I was looking on the internet and think I MAY have found it. I found a campground with 30 RV sites and 10 tent sites. It is 3.5 miles south of Camp Wood and is called Cooksey Park. I'm thinking that MIGHT be it, that name sounds familiar.

Does that ring a bell with anyone??
