Richardson Canyon Creek Christian Academy, winner of the TAPPS Division IV state title, was declared a national champion Sunday.

The National Private School Athletic Association voted the Cougars its top football team out of thousands of member schools.

Canyon Creek finished 13-0 and won the state title for the second straight season. The Cougars, who hold practices not on a football field but at a park across from the school, run a triple-option offense led this season by quarterback Cohl Tufford and running back Leland Moorehead. The team accumulated 4,900 rushing yards this fall.

"Last year we relied a lot on talent," coach Larry Thexton said. "This year we just had guys that had been in the system for three years who were better football players. We just had a better team."

That is great and a big honor even though I consider these type of things more opinions than credible because so many great teams all over the country in high school never play each other.
