Here is an updated map with all the state champions plotted...

Congrats to all the teams this year, those that achieved the ultimate goal, those that fell just short, those that over achieved, and those that struggled. There were some incredible games over the last 3 weeks...beginning with the 3A Div 1 semi's...2 of the most memorable semifinals I can remember, both coming down to the last few seconds.

I hope everyone enjoys and appreciates as much as I do the wonderful privilege we have as a state to be a part of the best High School Football in the country year in and year out.

Everyone have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Wow...the greater Houston area got blanked...not even close!!!! Great post and good work.

I would like to see a map of the decade's winners...which region dominated overall...and which were left out. THAT would be interesting! (hint hint)

Funny, I was thinking about doing just that...but year by year moving backwards...I will get to work...It's actually n ot too hard to do, and over the next two weeks I should have some time.

2008 and 2007 will be out there shortly.

Great! And then would it be hard to merge all of them?

Depends on what you consider East Texas...30-40 miles s/e/w from DFW and anything north I consider DFW/North Texas, from East of Canton and north and east of I-45 down to Jasper I consider East Texas, Abilene and anything west/northwest I consider West Texas, Kirbyville and south toward Beaumont minus Houston I consider SE Texas, then you have Centex which is all of Hill Country, Austin and San Antonio...then there is South Texas, which is Victoria and south...need to draw it out on a map.

Success has been pretty spread out over the last couple of years, west texas has done well. Houston and Centex outside of Katy, Lake Travis, and Liberty Hill, haven't done so well for the three years listed below.

I would really be interested in others interpretations of the geographical boundaries as I am sure my interpretations are faulty...not wrong just faulty.

For 2009:
4 - East Texas
3 - DFW/North Texas
3 - West Texas
2 - Centex

For 2008:
4 - West Texas
3 - East Texas
2 - DFW/North Texas
1 - Houston
1 - Centex
Where does Strawn fit?

For 2007:
3 - West Texas
3- DFW/North Texas
3 - Austin
2 - Houston
1 - East Texas

I hate to break the West Texas bubble but you guys will get 2 championships in 6 man every year.

True...but the west texas fans do much less chest beating than the east texas fans...well, actually all the regions do less chest beating than the east texas fans...east texas has some good football no doubt, but generally they proclaim themselves to be best every year...

Actually Brownwood considers themselves to be the geographical center of the state. I made the mistake of labeling them West Texas and was corrected.

SE of Dallas is East Texas lol...It is not like Dallas is 8 hours away from the Tex/LA Border.

From the map it looks like they're a little closer to Tyler than to DeSoto which is considered part of the metroplex so you're probably more right than I am....however, Brownwood is not just the center of Texas but also the universe itself! Just ask anyone from Brownwood.;)
