Okay, I'll give you this thought:

1. Gilmer
2. Cuero
3. Carthage

But after that:

Graham
Navasota
LaGrange
All would be pretty close in my mind.

I also think that Sinton, Sealy, would be in the top ten.

I struggled with my 5 spot and debated between La Grange and Navasota. There is no doubt the Rattlers were an awesome team, not only this year but the last few too.

The Key to La Grange's success will be finding a servicible QB and putting together another good offensive line.

The RB's and WR positions should be good to go. The Defensive Line should be damn good and the rest of the defense should be decent as well.

1. Carthage - We are on top till someone knocks us off.
2. Gilmer
3. Cuero
4. Graham
5. Mexia

Mexia had the best offense Carthage faced in the playoffs.

Hopefully the Spring offseason will tell the tale of the QB position. LG history might repeat itself. The 2001 team repeated a trip to the state game after losing some key seniors from the state championship team.

3. Cuero - Gave Gilmer all they could handle.
4. Graham - Gave Carthage the same.
5. Sweetwater - If the funny shaped ball would've bounced our way a few more times we
would've been playing Carthage in week 16. :D

Mexia had the best offense Carthage faced in the playoffs. That's only because you were fotunate enough not to have faced the Buckeyes who would have smoked your boys this year.

I like that for a top ten I don't know if you saw Navasota play this year or not, but I did. And of course I also saw Abilene Wylie when we beat them in the Championship game. IMO - Navasota would have been able to beat Wylie pretty handily. But then again I thought Carthage would have beat Graham by at least 2 TD's. I know --- that's why they play the game.

The top ten as posted above would be hard to argue with. I agree that from 5 to ten would be pretty much interchangeable. After watching the playoffs this year, Gilmer is definitely the best of 3A and I think Cuero was the closest to them. Carthage would be a close third and Graham would be on thier heels, since they should have won against Carthage, and would have if they had a kicking game at all.

If they are going to have DI and DII then they should both play eachother to decide the real 3A State Champ, which would have been Gilmer easily. Carthage coulnd't hang with Gilmer. Thats just the facts.

I mean it just seems stupid to have 2 State champions per class. I wish someone would take the time and push it with the UIL.

But then we would run out of stuff to complain about at the end of the season. However, after one champion per class is determined, we could push the UIL to have our 5A-1As play other states teams to determine the REAL National Champion! Texas 5A programs would do poorly against such teams from North Dakota and Rhode Island

Just my opinion but Monahans deserves to be in the top 10. Had they not lost their starting backfield as well as all everything QB Titus they most likely would have won the DII title. Gave Graham all they wanted with the backup QB and the regular season jv rbs.

I would be willing to bet money that we'll be in the same district next year. If we're not in the same district I would like to see us renew the rivalry.

Depending on what district and region the Buckeyes are in, I'd like to see these 3 matchups for sure:

Gilmer vs. Pittsburg (home and away)
Gilmer vs. Carthage (at the TMF Rose Classic)
Gilmer vs. Jacksonville - some people are saying this one is gonna happen

I don't see White Oak moving back up to 3A. I do look for Kilgore, Henderson, and Lindale to move down to 3A, though. That should definitely make 3A interesting in East Texas for sure.

Region 2

15-3A: Liberty-Eylau, Pleasant Grove, Paris, North Lamar, Atlanta, and Mt. Vernon

16-3A: Gilmer, Pittsburg, Lindale, Spring Hill, Kilgore, and Gladewater

17-3A: Carthage, Henderson, Jasper, Diboll, Huntington, and Tatum

We started off the year at number one and finished undefeated to maintain the number one ranking. Carthage beat Gilmer in 2008, and the pollsters still decided that Gilmer should be ranked higher than Carthage to start the 2009 season.
The truth is that neither team can say they are better than the other because they did not play. But we maintain the number one ranking because we've had it all year. Carthage beating Gilmer in 2008 has absolutely no bearing on the 2009 season.

Seems very straightforward to me :)

Gilmer performed significantly better against every single common opponent they played with Carthage. Cuero came 1 yard away from beating Gilmer but still Gilmer won every game of their season by 6 points or more.

Seems very straightforward to me :)

Gilmer performed significantly better against every single common opponent they played with Carthage. Cuero came 1 yard away from beating Gilmer but still Gilmer won every game of their season by 6 points or more.

Looks legit to me.. Dang, the "what ifs'" will drive you crazy ;)

That 1 point win over 7-5 Silsbee keeps the Rattlers out of my Top 5. ...and yes WO-S lost to Silsbee, there's no point to make there though.

that's fine. I was a non believer too until I saw the way the Rattlers played the following Saturday. That one game doesn't tell the story of an entire season especially coming off the bye week going into the playoff then playing the district champs, Silsbee Tigers. Im saying it again, someone will believe me someday, it's all about matchups.

I guess winning all 16 games this season and 29 in a row doesn't tell a story either!

You're right, it was an accident to omit them. They'd definitely be somewhere around 5 or 6.

.....It is real simple Carthage and Gilmer are tied at the top and the rest is a wash; probably 8 good teams with 5 of those from Region III.:D
