Gladewater opens their season with a game at home against Gilmer (#2 in state poll on Collier-Sharp). Yeehaw! At least we have a nice new turf field to get whooped on!

Jasper vs. Port Neches-Groves in the Doghouse on 8/30. The Indians are a good 4A school most years and I think most Jasper fans consider them a rival, but not at the same level as West Orange-Stark. It should be a much better game than last year when the Dogs won 25-0.

How about Burnet vs. Austin Reagan, should be a good test for both teams.

We play Bellville first. That's a tough game for us.

How about this one:

Vernon scrimmages Ballinger then Canyon then opens with Sweetwater.

I feel like Vernon is underrated in region 1 so after this stretch I should know a little more.

BTW, I think this will be a close game and the Bears are always capable of pulling an upset, particularly at home. The home team usually wins in this series.

Purely in terms of talent, you shouldn't be able to stay on the turf with us, though, you're right.

But the opening night jitters, unforeseen Gilmer injuries during August, etc., could play havoc with the prognosticators.

At any rate, it ought to be one of the best games of Week Zero and may the best team win.

Bridge City opens again against there old 4A cross-county rival, Little Cypress-Mauriceville. Last year, BC beat them 27-7 while their other Orange County rival West Orange-Stark beat them 21-7. Well those Battling Bears have most of their folks back and plan to whip BC and WO-S this season. Good cross-county rivalry is a boost to the attendence during the Preseason games. I am sure the Bears will be picked as the favorite in this opening game.

I have to agree the Gilmer & Gladewater game will be a good one. Gilmer has a very talented team, but when these two play it is always a great game!
