I know its been about a week since the heartbreaking loss in the Pirates final game. But i thought would love to share this story about the awesome season in Pirate football. Published in the Sinton newspaper on Dec 10. Great story that describes the Sinton Pirates in '09:clap:

Loss doesn't define Pirates' stellar season

Scoreboards can't tell stories, just numbers.
If they could, if for a moment those paeans to the gridiron could take on the life of storytellers, then maybe they could do justice to the Sinton Pirates' season this year.
It started what seems like ages, but it was only August when the crack of helmet-on-helmet collisions first filled the air.
The Pirates then reeled off eight straight wins, including a 33-28 come-from-behind thriller against rival Mathis- the kind of game that will be talked about for years. Both schools played with conviction seldom seem in high school sports. But that seemed to only be the beginning. A week later, fans were sent to the edges of their seats again when Sinton picked up yet another key district win in double overtime against Robstown 45-44.
The district schedule, blemished by just one loss to a tough Ingleside squad, came and went. As did Bi-District, a slosh in the cold, driving rain for Area, and then there was a Thanksgiving treat: a hard-fought 31-24 win over the Brookshire Royal Falcons.
But in the outcome in the final game of one the best seasons in Sinton High School football history wasn't what any Pirate fan hoped for. Certainly, the Pirates' 34-27 overtime setback at the hands of the La Grange Leopards last Saturday night made for a tough weekend for Sinton High players, coaches and all of Pirate Nation.
When you get this close to a state championship, you want to cap the season the right way by hoisting a piece of gold hardware toward the sky.
The heartbreaking overtime defeat- the varsity Pirates' first in six games and only second this season- separated the Pirates just two games from the 2009 UIL Class 3A Division II state title.
The loss will sting for many, but one 48-minute game- even one for a ticket to the state semifinal game in mid December- shouldn't take away from the kind of season Sinton had. Regardless of Saturday's outcome, it was a season to remember for this talented program.
Quite simply, the Sinton Pirates have blossomed into the best high school football program in San Patricio County. That the Pirates have been able to establish themselves as one of the state's premier programs is a reflection on head coach Tom Allen and his talented group of assistant coaches and the committed young men who have chosen to be part of something truly special at SHS.
One of the most beautiful aspects about a team sport like football is journey a team takes from pre-season work to two-a-day practices in the sweltering August heat to battling ever closer to a state title on a bitterly cold December night.
As difficult as the last week or so has been for Sinton High's talented football team and those who support it, one game shouldn't take away the impact this season has had on the young lives of the players and to all those who have become hoarse from the prideful chant of "Go Pirates Go!"
This team and this program had made high school football in all of South Texas truly special this year, and the journey the Pirates have been on this season has certainly made it a season to remember.
It was not to be the season Sinton made it to the finals. A solid La Grange team outmuscled the Pirates, but not before Sinton made a statement with a 99-yard scoring drive to tie the game at 27.
It was a perfect restatement of the never-say-die attitude that got the team to the Class 3A quarterfinals in the first place.
If scoreboards could tell stories, the one standing at Converse Judson on Saturday would have told a tale of Sinton and of a season well-done.
