Update: Pilot Point scores, leads 35-18, in 2A state title game

6:57, 4th quarter - The state championship is getting closer for Pilot Point. Jarman Johnson ran 20 yards for a touchdown, his fourth of the day.
The drive began after a major defensive stop for the Bearcats, in which Charles Greenleaf stopped LeFredrick Ford for a loss on fourth down.

12:00, 4th quarter - One quarter remains. Pilot Point will try to hold on, and Kirbyville will look to make a comeback. The Wildcats have the ball on Pilot Point's 27 yard line.

2:23, 3rd quarter - Jarman Johnson ran for a three-yard touchdown run, capping a drive in which Pilot Point made a key fourth down conversion.

10:45, 3rd quarter - Finally, another person got involved for Kirbyville. After a long run by Berman Ervine, LeFredrick Ford finished off a TD drive with a three yard TD run. Kirbyville missed the extra point and has yet to score any points after touchdowns.

congrats to pilot point... wow...that coaching staff and program really showed a lot of character bouncing back from those problems of few years ago.................again congrats.

there was a pretty good article about the coach and his sons this week in the DMN.

I think his son got hurt in the 2nd Quarter. If he was #72. Big ole lineman. He limped off and couldnt put any weight on his left foot. Pilot Point did a great job in his absense.

Is that Johnson related to the running back PP had around '03 / '04 with the same last name?

Without knowing definitely, I'm 99% sure the PP-Celina game will be back on even if PP stays 2A. Celina needs the game and PP is on a much stronger footing than they were at the end of the 2007 season.

Will Pilot Point go 3a this next re-alignment? If not, I still think the Celina v. Pilot Point rivalry needs to be re-ignited. Always a good game in my book. Again, congrats PP on a great championship season. The records set by Johnson will be in the books for a long time.

PP turned in numbers in the 440's so it will be on the line again of 2a/3a. Most think the line will be 440-455 since 2a voted to do the 2 Division thing from the beginning of the season.

I know some people took shots at Feldt for not playing Celina in 2008/2009 but in retrospect it was genius. He needed to rebuild some confidence in the program and that is a lot easier done against Ferris than Celina. He had nothing to gain by playing them. Something I haven't seen anyone talk about is how big it is that someone won state at PP that is outside of the Coach Moore coaching tree.

As for the next two years, I don't know if it would be smart for PP to play Celina in a non-district game or not. Honestly, I am more interested in the district game between 'ol Aurbrey and Celina. Aurbrey's #'s are far above the line and is goin up to 3a. They have quite a bit coming back.
