This year's Denison v McKinney High game.
Denison- 75
McKinney- 37

Denison is REALLY good and McKinney had the worst defense I have ever seen....and their coach paid for not playing any defense.

In covering high school football in over 25 years I can't remember any high scoring games. I'm sure I've been to some, but not that many stick out

Lowest scoring game I ever went to was Needville over Boling 7-0 in the 1980s

There was a 3-2 Class A game between Hungerford and Alief in the early 70s

There was a 3-2 Class A game between Hungerford and Alief in the early 70s in 1980 gilmer beat white oak for the district championship 3-0. that was our first district champ in a number of years and put behind us what was a really ugly 70's decade. Chuck the "golden toe" Waggoneer booted us on to victory:D

I was there. We had a running bet as to what the scoreboard would do if they hit 100! ACU tried a trick play on the last play of the game to try to get the 100 points. As you can imagine, WTAM did not appreciate it!

Johnny Knox got away with a cheap shot when the scuffle was going on but I think the coaches found out and made him do a lil extra after the next practice from what I heard at Chapel the next day:thinking:

2004 - Royse City 70 Mt Vernon 60

No Defense in this game...Royse City did not pass the ball well and used a converted RB as QB that year...James Mapps.

Later that year RC played AW at TS in the semis...lost 28-0, one dimensional run game. Case Kennum was awesome to watch that game as a junior. The next year I wrote an article for another site and watched him against Gainesville at TS as well, this was the game where he hurdled a defender on the way to a long TD run...

My daughter still doesn't like me to bring up AW...too funny, she cried/cries after every RC loss, cried lots when we lost to LE at Tyler Rose the following year 21-27 in the reg final...LE went on to win the SC.

Good times in RC then, 4A has been tough, first year in (last year) made to playoffs only to be shown the door quickly by Denison in the first round and then graduated 36 seniors, and this year was just down in a very tough district. Oh how I miss 3A.

That was one heck of a game. Shame that there had to be a loser. Ya'll had a great team. I really expected to see RC going deep in 4A, and maybe with realignmet you will. Dennison in the 1st round:doh: OUCH!!

Hey, you'll remember the lowest scoring game I've ever been too...

'97 Calallen 7 Cuero 0... good thing Cuero's deep-snapper snapped the ball above the punter's head and Calallen recovered or it would have probably ended 0-0 ha...

I was coaching in that game. The deflection was on a two point attempt, because it was the second game of the season. The head coach didn't see any reason to play an overtime. when the yards gained were like running two track meets back to back. Cuero then came to Wharton the next year and won on a two point conversion 36-35.

The funny thing about the 04 game was that the half time score was 21-14. The second half was CRAZY!!

Oh, I remember those "ugly 70's" all too well. About the 3-0 win , WO had over 400 total yards and Gilmer had jus over 100, but WO had 7 fumbles. "Golden Toe" Waggoner kicked one FG all year and was named All ET Kicker by the Longview News Journal. WO finished the year at 9-1 and allowed only 22 points all year and did not make the playoffs. Gilmer finished 7-2-2 , lost in Bi-district to Van on penetrations.

Highest single team score was Groveton 80 Cooper 8. It was 42-0 at the end of first quarter and 63 -0 at halftime. The year was 1989, I believe, Groveton was led by Rodney Thomas and Cooper was Byron "Bam" Morris . I swear that Groveton team was the best all around 2A team I had ever seen. At the end of the first half on the last play Groveton had anopther break away sure score and the player fumbled out of bounds at the 5 yard line with nobody around him or it would have been 70-0 at half time

the final score was actually 82-6. We had went and watched Cooper the week before against Harmony and I remember thinking "it's gonna take a damn fine football team to beat those guys". Man, little did I know. I think Rodney Thomas scored the 1st 5 or 6 times he touched the ball!!!!

OK OK , I may have had the score wrong , but it was a 3rd round game , I checked and Harmony finished 9-3 that year and Cooper finished 12-1 . I was thinking the same thing about Cooper, and you know what , they were beaten by a damn fine team !
