I'm going to bring a pillow and sleeping bag for the QB & RB because they will be on the ground so much that it will look like they are having a sleep over:taunt:

I probably will be away from internet the rest of the week, so I will close with this. Defense wins championships!!! If Graham goes out and can stop the Pitt offense early, we will win the game. There is more than one kid on our D that can lay the wood I promise, because I have seen it on many occasions this year. Yes our D does not have the fastest kid in Texas on it, but the overall team D speed will be able to swarm the ball and create turnovers. As far as the offense, with what some are saying about Pitts D, I think we will have no problems scoring alot of points. Pitt loads up double teams on the WR's, then we send the waterbug at them. They load up in the box, then we strike with the pass. Turnovers will play a major part in who wins this game. It has been a fun week, but I am going hunting for a couple of days. Keep it clean while I am gone!!

He will probably go down early and often:p

I pretty sure the graham D will hit silent on that alarm clock real fast, I watched them take a RB that had rushed for over 500 yards in the first three games of the playoffs and drop him for negitve yards in the first half. I dont know if the swarming D of the steers can stop pitt but they can slow them down enough.

They will take what you give them. :D

You start stopping 1 and they will hit you with the other.

You are right, they do have to stop both if they want to win but I think they probly know that by now. One thing that I have seen that has went unmentioned is the D-line from graham they are very good, they can make plays.

First, Know nothing about Graham. I'm sure they're a great team, or they wouldn't be here.
Pittsburg will bring Burns to the table. He had over 2000 yds before the playoffs, and will probably be all-state. I will not attempt to quote 40 times, cause I don't know or care, just that he's fast, and more importantly, quick. He has a BIG offensive line, probably the best at creating lanes for him I've seen. He can go outside or inside with that group.
Pitt running the spread keeps you honest, because if Manley doesn't hand of to Burns, he will keep it and go the other way, he's good at reading the D for that. He does have good running ability, so containment will be needed. They will throw over the cornerback's head when they have single coverage to the rollout side, and good run yds after the catch.
They have a pretty good receiver corps, but you have to make sure not to let them suck you up on the fake, if they get behind you, he can reach them.
Their kicker was second team all state as a sophomore. He hits from 55 in pregame just because he can. Most of his kickoffs can be in the end zone, I don't know what happened at the last game, maybe it was the sort of Icy ground and footing, or coach was respecting the return by having him kick away, because three went OB on the KO. Their KO coverage was bad, the kicker made three tackles to save a TD, he is not a Gramattica type, more like Vineteri (sp) when it comes to getting physical. Their Defense stopped the double threat of Antonio Graves by containing his scrambles. PG appeared to be content to throw on them, and not have the QB draw as their initial choice. PG was with them through three quarters, in the lead at the end of 2 & 3, but the wheels came off, and Pitt racked up 24 unanswered. They have a great LB in Attaway, I'm sure he'll introduce himself to the skill players.
Anyway, all this from someone who has seen them.
Graham, we shall see how you two match up come 11:00pm.
Good l=uck to both, and here's to injury free football.

from what i can gather, it sounds like the winner will be the team that has the ball last. it should be a shootout. which defense is gonna step up?

Wow they sound awesome! Why are the Steers even showing up for this one? To quote a Texas Quaterback who is the winningest in Football History "Don't make this bigger than it really is."

Aw c'mon Steer81---I thought this was a pretty straight forward and honest post about Pitt based on what the guy has seen---it didn't strike me as chest-beating at all, but that is strictly IMO---different impressions for different posters, I guess.

Did not think it was chest beating at all. He gave the Pitt side of the story and made a case they are to good to lose (that's my take) I was pointing out with tounge in cheek that you can say what you want but don't make this bigger than it really is. It's TWO good teams meeting on the field. I can tell by looking at who they have played that Pitt has not seen a Def. like the Steers are going to bring. And Pitt should not over look that fact. But we shall see.

You are quite right, it was not chest beating. They are not my team. I was just giving the forum my honest assesment. I was in no way implying they were good to win OR lose. I was not trying to make it bigger than it really is, I ws just stating what is from that point of view. People are free to take it and make it as big as they want. I just thought, based on the posts I had read, my info would offer insight, nothing more.:)

How is the pitt defense? Will they match up good against the high powered offense from graham? You say pitt has a RB that has ran for 2000 ± yards and are worried how he will be stopped well on the other side of the ball you have a QB that has thrown for 4000 ± yards 50 tds and have a RB who has 1300 yds and accounted for 20 tds. I haven't seen pitt them play so just wondering.

Id say that the defense has what it takes to hold the line of scrimmage and they are quick to the perimeter... Might be hard to get a running attack going against them

This should be a good match-up to watch between the O-line of Pitt and D-line of Graham. The skill players for Graham are as tough a group as I have seen all year. RB just keeps coming. WR are tough and strong. They can take the wood and they can bring the wood. Watching Attaway against this group is going to be interesting as well. I agree it will take all 4 quarters so yes it may take till 11PM for the winner to emerge. Thanks again for your post!

Think they will take a chance with McCoy scrambling, rather than giving him the time they did Graves.

I dont doubt it one bit that they want it bad. I just hope pitt can match the intensity without forcing anything and making mistakes.
I think you are right about the D-scheme they will bring the pressure lets just hope it doesnt hurt them, that QB can make excellent reads and changes.

Both QBs are coaches sons, both run Spread offense, both are balanced on O and solid on D. Probably will be continuious adjustment made from 1st series on. Proper halftime adjustments will be critical.:)

I don't need to know the kids personally to see how fast they were. There isn't one kid on the field besides #33 on the offense that has decent speed. Everyone else is just average white boy 3A speed. QUIT GETTING ALL MAD ABOUT IT. I'm not saying that Graham is going to lose and I'm not saying you are a bad team or I wasn't impressed. I'm just saying there isn't a whole lot, if any true or above average speed on the field. I watched the game with two Celina grads who in high school played in a state championship game every year and also sat with 2 LH grads. All of these kids mentioned have 2 big, fat, shiny state rings on their hand and the first comment any of us made was that the defense is slow. The fastest player on the team is #33. We laughed the entire second quarter at the though of one of the LH teams or Celina teams playing Graham.

I'm not knocking them personally, I'm not knocking the game plan or anything like that and I'm not saying that they aren't a good football team, they are obviously doing fine with exactly what they're doing. All I'm saying is that if you think you have team speed you're high.

In Daddy D's defense, I heard the same thing from some who saw the game against Wimberley. Graham is not the fastest team around...but thats OK. If they play like they did last Friday night, they arent going to need it.

There is nothing wrong with admitting one's shortcomings, especially if you make up for it in other ways. Wimberley was neither the fastest nor the biggest team when we won state...
I predict Graham will win it as well, and they are neither the fastest nor biggest around.

I haven't seen pitt them play so just wondering.

I really think with a passer that has stats like McCoy, Pitt is going to have a problem stopping the pass. They basically put a spy on Graves to contain him, and he was allowed to throw, but not scramble. They had trouble stopping the pass to the extent that PG didn't need the run to be in the lead after three. The wheels came off later, but Pitt has an Achilles heel that can be exploited by a top rated passing team like the Steers. It will probably turn into a shootout, with the team that can get the stops winning.

Ya I think you are right, they can drop everyone they have to try to slow down McCoy but when they do that then they are gonna leave things open for 33 who is very hard to take don one on one in the open field. Its gonna be a good one!

OK it's gameday and all the smack that has been written and said doesn't mean anything now... May the best team win. Since its my B-Day of course I would like to see Graham's first bid for a state championship. We have waited a long time.

To the steer players (many are here every night reading your posts), Its time to leave it all on the field. Put up or shut up.

To the Pirates... I hope Saturday morning you are like Wimberley was last week and are still wondering what hit you... and I hope Saturday morning you feel like you've been run over by a train!!!

I also need a reason to come back to 3Adownlow next week... that will be a great birthday gift...

I think I will agree. I think it will be high scoring, but Pitt will not get the stops they need on all the drives. If the Steers win, it will be about that,Graham in the 40's, Pitt around 30.

It’s easier to just post the same response on this thread then typing out a whole bunch of the same thing worded differently:

In my opinion the turnovers ended up evening out even though Grahams were more self inflicted. However, Pitt got luck on a few calls. One in particular the QB threw the ball behind the line of scrimmage while being wrapped up and the Graham kid picks it up and is off to the races. It was VERY CLEAR that this was a fumble, but I think an inadvertent whistle saved them. Regardless it was nice to see that Graham had the "Athletes" that those east Texas teams haven’t seen up until this point to overcome adversity :p

Hats off to the Graham defense, those guys did one hell of a job http://www.the-mainboard.com/forum/Smileys/default/heythere.gif

I think it's time you read what I've been putting on the other threads.

I was rooting for the Steers the whole time and was cheering the entire game but I hate when one side says turnovers killed them and cost them points but won't acknowledge that it did the same to the other team.

You'd think after a little while on the board that you would start to get a clue.

Not poking. Just not on my knees taking it from the almighty Graham Steers. I've said 10 times that you guys were the better team and that's why you won but quit saying if you take this away or take that fumble away or if so and so catches this then we win by more. It's all garbage and none of it matters, like I said last night... GRAHAM WON. That is all that matters. Quit trying to say you could have won by more.

And don't forget, I've been where you're going twice before. We actually won both ours. Got rings to prove it:D You could win next week and still have less rings.

Pitt had 281 through the air. That's more than Graham had. I said last week a good passing team will move the ball on Graham's secondary because they aren't that fast. And Pitt proved me right. That is all I said. Never said Graham can't stop the run.

Too bad Pitt played sloppy and Graham was the better team. Which is also what I said earlier in the week (that Graham was the better team).

It was kind of funny. First time LH won state only the players that were on the original varsity squad and a handful of JV move ups got rings. Along with the coaches of course, the Super, and the Principal.
Second time around...... Every single football player that got moved up got one (literally every player because everyone is invited to keep practicing and suiting out for the games) and then coaches wives, vice principals, the supers wife, cheer leaders, band directors.. everyone LOL it was funny.

If La Grange wins WHY would Graham agree to play in Austin? La Grange is only like a hour and a half away. I would think Waco would be the ideal location so more fans could attend for Graham. You play in Austin and you are pretty much giving them the home field advantage.

HMMM, I guess the "newbies" do have some good insight!!! Congrats to Pitt on a great season.
