can't remember the name of this formation to save my life... was reminded of it while watching the Vick-led VTech offense butcher it last night on ESPNClassic's Bowden tribute:

well Vtech TRIED to run that inside the five against FSU... the whole line down-blocked to the right, Vick faked the hand off to the left-side FB(?), the TB(?) began to move right, Vick began to run right and that right-side FB(?) kinda stepped up, did not block the rusher from the outside, then ran forward a step or two and turned back around, looked lost... I'm thinking he screwed the whole thing up by missed that block, it would have scored I'm sure... instead the rusher from the right knifed in, knocked the ball loose from Vick and FSU recovered in the endzone... lame...

That's the old T formation. Qb, flanked by two halfbacks with the fullback behind the qb. We ran that in the 60's when I played hs football. Lots of misdirection and bootleg type plays can be run from it. I'm surprised anyone runs it nowadays. Everything old is new again I guess.

It's the t formation. Small t not capital T.:D In this variant the fb lines up a little deeper than the two hbs. T Formation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Formation_(American_football))

Celina runs this. Its a variation of the fullhouse called the funkhouse. The two outside backs are normally 5 yards back and the inside back is usually 4 yards in the regular fullhouse. But in the funkhouse formation the inside guy is 5 yards back and the outside guys 4 yards. Its a funky look to fullhouse, hence funkhouse

Is this not the Notre Dame Box??? Wasn't it a variation of the T? That's my pick, the Notre dame Box formation.

The Notre Dame Box is the wing T, but the wing is on the side with the RB.

To the whole arguing over what the technical term is called, there isnt one. Coaches call many formations different things. There isnt a handbook on what formations are called. You usually learn from the media, or the experience. I bet if i gathered 5 coaches around the country and asked them to draw up an " Shotgun-Open formation", i would get 3 different results. An inverted Wishbone might be called, a broken-bone to someone. And yes I know this statement contradicts my paragraph above.

Just my couple of cents though

Agreed. i've always called this the inverted bone, but I've heard coaches just call it a "power I."

The only one of those names I have not heard the formation called is "full house" and since it is off of Madden I am sure some coach somewhere has called it that too.:D

Looks like the center has his underwear taped shut so I dub it "The diarrhea".

Its the full house, the T formation is running back on both sides of the fullback with the QB under center. Some call it the inverted wishbone but the actual name is fullhouse but its not the T.

Well Celina does run it. It is the t. NOT T. Old fashioned power football. and yes the full back missed the block on the game.

I had a coach in college that called that the Hambone.

I know it's not technically the power I, but I've heard it referred to it as that just because of the similarities. Basically, any formation with two backs in front of the tailback is sometimes called the power I. I still refer to it as inverted bone, but it's much easier to write down "pwr I" as I draw it up.
