'06 was the 1st season of that particular realignement cycle and they lost in the finals to LH.
If memory serves, I think that SLC may have done it once (maybe their move up to 4A) and I think that Everman won the 3A championship their 1st year in 3A after the move down from 4A. I am sure that WOS87 will set me straight on this.

That broke "the streak" and they did not win a state championship in either of those 3A years. They then went back down to 2A and promptly won again. After a 2 year stint in 2A, they were once again (and probably permanently) in 3A. In the first year of that move up, '06, they lost to LH in the finals and then won it in '07. In '08 they lost to Carthage and we all know how this year ended for the Bobcats.

I forgot to mention that Tatum won a state championship in 3A, moved down to 2A and won again before losing to Farmersville in their 3rd straight championship appearance (1 in 3A and 2 in 2A) and attempt to win 3 straight.

The only instance of which I am aware of a team moving up a classification and winning a state title the very first year would be Southlake Carroll in 2002 (their opponent in the State Finals that year - Smithson Valley, was ALSO competing for the first time in 5A that year).

Both Beaumont West Brook (in 1982) and Lubbock Estacado (in 1968) won state titles in their very first seasons of varsity play which is actually equally impressive as they are the only two programs in UIL history ever to achieve the feat.

Celina won the 3A title their 2nd season back in 3A in 2007. They lost to Liberty Hill in 2006 in the Finals, remember?

Everman won the first of two 3A titles in their 2nd season as well. They dropped to 3A in 2000 and won the title in 2001 and 2002.

There have been many instances of teams dropping a classification and immediately winning a title with WO-S in 1986 being the first to come to mind. Grapevine did it in 1996 dropping from 5A to 4A, and Tatum did it when they dropped from 3A to 2A in 2006. I know there have been many other times.
