Just getting home from Lufkin. What a game. Navasota was definitley the best team the Buckeyes have played this year. Huge offensive line. Got to give Navasota props for playing us a great game. Looking forward to another barn burner next week.

No doubt about it, Navasota the best team we have played. Offensive line was huge, exceptional qb, and the wr's made some great catches. Defense was impressive but just could not stop gilmer enough.

Gilmer did not look like a team who was fired up and ready to play in the first half, they were doing things they hadn't done all year, blowing coverages, missing tackles, getting blown off the line. Credit the rattlers with a great offense. Then in the second half, if not for some costly pass interference calls, Gilmer played lights out defense. Game came down to Gilmer's D being just a bit better than Navasotas.

Great Game rattlers, was sad to see someone go home. Navasota must put something in the wheeties down there, you guys were HUGE.

I had to get updates on the way home from Longview. 99.9 FM was very scratchy, and I lost it in Henderson right at the first onside kick attempt. Found out they were called offsides after recovering it, then the rekick was recovered by Gilmer. Sad, but I am proud of the Rattlers for hanging with the best team in the state score for score. I understand Gilmer started blitzing the crap out of Navasota in the second half, and unfortunately, the Rattlers have not made good adjustments all year when that happens. Still, they had a chance to tie it up with special teams try, and came close. I doubt anybody thinks either of these teams took anything with them from the field. It was all left in Lufkin, where Navasota started and ended another strong year.
Good luck against Cuero, Buckeye faithful. Navasota, it is now basketball season and you have a high ranking to live up to in yet another sport. Let's get to dribbling!

This was the best game the Rattler have played all year and it came against the best team we played all year. This game came down to inches--in other words little things that made big turns in the game. After halftime, the Gilmer defense turned up the pressure and kept Navasota at bay in the 3rd quarter for the most part. Yes, they tackled better, but they also filled lanes better and challenged the offensive line of the Rattlers. The defensive lineman that were being somewhat controlled by the Rattler line in the first half, suddenly were using thier hands to get under blocks and then peeling off to the ball. Perfectly legal and perfectly executed.

I was very impressed with the way the Buckeye offense worked with pretty much machine-like precision most of the game. The Rattlers made a few stops and had decent pressure on Stump most of the day. But, like champions, the Gilmer offense found ways to make plays when they had to and that was the difference.

I think that these two teams could play three times and all three games would be this close. Very evenly matched teams that both played thier hearts out.

The Gilmer defense started coming around toward the end of the first half. And then when we scored to tie the game up at half we had the momentum going into the locker room, even though Navasota was going to get the ball to start the second half. Then when we held you on your first possession of the second half I felt like our defense had turned the corner and they finally came on. Gilmer has made great halftime adjustments all season long.

Wow, what a game. Congrats to both teams. Sorry for you guys in Navasota. You guys had 1 heck of a team. Gilmer must be the real deal.

I keep catching myself, catching my breath. This was two great teams deserving to be playing one another. Really a tale of two halves. Offensive first half, tied at 28, 230yds to 270 yds. Second half 93 yds and 107 yards totals. What a leg on Gilmer punter Turner! Definitely one of the game "turners" in this one. 55 yard or so average! That is huge! Big hit on the 4th down play on the Rattler sideline definitely one of the backbreakers.

Huge crowd! Loud crowd! Awesome respect by everyone in the stadium as the colors are presented at start of game. Could hear the cadet countlng steps like I was right beside him. Great to be an American on a Texas HS football playoff afternoon!!

Glad our Buckeyes won! Navasota also a great team. Keep it rolling next week Bucks. I will not get to Huntsville, but will be at the Championship game with you!!!

Some stats according to the Bryan Eagle:

Navasota Gilmer
First Downs 23 24
Rushing Att/Yrds 34-135 43-189
Passing Com/Att/Int 15-25-0 16-24-0
Passing Yards 230 153

Fumbles/Lost 0-0 0-0
Penalties 8-72 7-68
Punts/Avg 4-37.3 3-54.0

Final Score Gilmer 42
Navasota 35

As you can see, this game was even in about every way and could have gone either way. Gilmer made the plays and won and that is to thier credit. The Rattlers have shown us that they can play with anyone and we are proud of them.

Next week----Go Buckeyes. I like both teams, but the Class and Dignity of the fans, players, and coaches from Gilmer have made me a fan.

That's the stats I saw in the Houston Chronicle, and over on the southeast Texas site. Looks like Navasota outgained Gilmer, but Gilmer got the TDs, and Navasota came up short a few times. Still an amazing game though.
