Tonight was the first time I had watched Argyle play all year long, but from reading on the forums and seeing how they knocked off both Prosper and Celina, sure made me think Argyle was all that and a bag of tater chips! However, after watching them tonight, they were just a good team, but not the team I thought they were! PG took it to them! Hats off to #10 and the rest of the Hawk team as they came out and took care of business! Two 16-AAA teams playing against one another next week....Hmmmm.....Sure makes a pretty strong argument about who has the toughest district and who doesnt....Congrats Argyle on a good season and good luck to the Hawks next week!

Oh well would've, could've, should've. Pittsburg and Pleasant Grove are both great teams and I think 16 3A has a good shot at being in action week 16:clap:

The real Argyle failed to show up tonight.

The passing game was non existent except for int's. I think I counted 2 or 3 completions all night...to high, behind. and not even close would summarize it.

Their ground game was working, as was their kicking game if thay had stuck with it.

#12 their kicker is probably the best in the state period. Every kickoff to the end zone, his punting goes where he wants it, and is deadly from 50 out on FG's he hit a 48 and 26 tonight that would have been good at 55.

Congrats to PG! They dominated us in every phase of the game. The QB is the real deal. Not sure PG is a better football team, but they were tonight without question. They got the win and deserve it.

Yeah well district 13-AAA was one tipped pass away from playing Argyle last night....So, it goes both ways....Bottom line...I think the better teams won in both the PG game and the Lovejoy game in week two. PG won last night, so lets see who wins the Lovejoy game tonight....Outta ba a good one and I will be there!

I've heard the kicker has an offer to go to the next level!! Is that correct?

I was at the Lake Worth game and when he kicked into the wind he was still kicking the ball to the goal line or into the end zone. Very strong leg and a pretty good arm too!!;) ;)

I am not absolutely sure that he has any actual offers yet, but I know that he is being looked at by about everyone. He is awful good and still has next year to play.

When Celina played Argyle, I was surprised at how "undominant" Argyle was against a Celina team that was way down this year. Celina handed Argyle 7 points in the first 10 seconds with a bad snap into the endzone, then an ugly interception lead to another Argyle field goal in the first 4 minutes of the game. And still the score was only 10-6 at half.

The game completely changed in the 3rd quarter when Celina was going into the wind and could never get out of bad field position. They gave Argyle a short field ALL NIGHT LONG!!!! Just like the Celina-Prosper game, the final score for Celina-Argyle was not indicative of the game.

I was not surprised to see Pleasant Grove beat Argyle. When Celina played Pleasant Grove last year, you could easily see they had great talent. Argyle was very good, but certainly not unbeatable after watching the Celina game.

Pleasant Grove-Pittsburg should be a great game. I still can't believe Celina lost to Kennedale. Oh well. Time to get over it.

He started a QB last year as a Sophomore for the whole season and then started this year during the pre-district schedule as a junior.

Instead of "Sittin & Fishin" maybe you ought to be "sittin & thinkin". Now, PG kicked our tails, but Celina was beaten by a better Football team. Instead of Celina gave us this or that, we took it from them. Sounds like you don't pay attention, or you haven't looked at any film. Celina got beat in every phase of the game this year. Will it ever happen again? Don't know. But this year it did. Wonder why they couldn't get out of such bad field position going in to those "Hurricane Force" North Texas winds. We didn't seem to have a problem.

By the way, I have a great deal of respect for Celina, it's fans, and most certainly its football program, but absolutely none for stupid comments like this.

Celina had one drive the night they played Argyle. 45 yards of that drive came from penalties. I have found Celina has trouble giving other teams credit when they get beat by them.
Good luck to PG next week.

Based on your response, I obviously did a poor job of stating my position. There is no question that Argye was a better team. More size, more speed, more overall talent. No question. All year, I had been told by old coaching friends that Argyle was very good and would be an easy candidtae to go all the way to State. The only Argyle game I saw was the Celina game. That game had a lot of twists and turns from a coaching standpoint.

When Argyle kicks off to open the game and 12 seconds later is ahead by 7 when a snap from center goes into the end zone - that is a gift plain and simple. To get 7 points, Argyle had done two things. They kicked a ball out of the endzone with the wind at their back, and they fell on a fumble in the endzone = gift.

Another Argyle kick with wind out of endzone, Celina gets the ball back and throws a bad pass/interception into the wind in our own territory. Argyle cannot move the ball and kicks a field goal. Great kick. Argyle was up 10-0 within 4 minutes and they had not moved the ball at all. From a coaching standpoint, you would say we gave away 10 points. At that point, I called my wife and said Celina may get beat by 50 if they don't get their act together.

Celina scores on basically all run plays as they were going into the wind in the 1st qrtr. PAT blocked. Argyle offense does basically nothing in the first half. Celina has two possessions in 2nd qrtr with the wind, where they have first down inside the Argyle 20 yard line. Both times, Celina elects to try to convert on 4th and 3, and 4th and 5, rather than taking the field goal. Both 4th down attempts fail on GOOD Argyle defense. Would the field goal attempts have been blocked like the PAT? Who knows. But Celina had a chance to go into half down by 1 after feeling like they gave away 10 points early. Argyle did not have a first down in the entire first half, but was ahead 10-6.

My memory may be sketchy on exact details of Argyle first possession of second half - but second half, Celina kicks off into wind. Argyle moves ball down field and pins Celina deep with a good punt. Celina can't move ball and punts into wind. Poor punt and Argyle gets ball at midfield. Argyle moves ball on short field and scores. 16-6

Argyle kicks ball through endzone with wind. Celina can't move and has another poor punt into the wind. Argyle player runs it back to around the 10 yard line. Argyle scores. 23-6

Argyle continues to move ball in 3rd qrtr, but then scores on a 35 yard run on the first play of the 4th qrtr. 29-6.

Celina then scores a 4th qrtr touchdown on a pass play with the wind to make the final 29-13.

Every knowledgable football fan knows that it doesn't take "Hurricane Force" winds to affect a game. A 5, 10, 15 MPH wind can easily effect punts, kickoffs, field goals, and passes. Celina did not have their strong armed QB as he was hurt against Prosper. They were using their original starting QB who was coming off a shoulder injury and wasn't at 100%. The starting Celina punter was injured and did not play in the game, so the back up punter was the one kicking into the wind. The wind absolutely affected these elements of the game. That is not a complaint, or whining. It is simple fact.

Argyle scored 4 touchdowns and 1 field goal in the game. 3 touchdowns and 1 field goal were scored with wind at their back, and the other touchdown was scored on one running play, which was the first play into the wind in the 4th qrtr.

Apparently the wind did have an effect on the game as your kicking game, and our lack of passing and kicking kept us pinned deep in the 3rd quarter when the game was really won. That's not an insult of Argyle, it's just fact.

I remember vividly, several Argyle 3A posters said they were surprised how well Celina played and they stated the fact that Argyle didn't move the ball as expected against Celina's defense.

game Stats:
first downs: celina 16 vs Argyle 9
Total yards: celina 174 vs Argyle 212
Even though that is not statistical domination, Argyle did have one stat that was all important. They beat Celina.

ARGYLE WAS BETTER THAN CELINA AND THEY DESERVED TO WIN THE GAME. No question at all. But, I left that game thinking Argyle COULD be beat, because they didn't completely dominate Celina even after basically being spotted 10 points to start the game. That was what I was trying to say with my post.

My post was not intended as an insult of Argyle. It was simply looking at the Celina game and understanding the type of ways Argyle scored, how they got in position to score, and how Celina stumbled as they did most of the year in certain elements of the game. Yes, Argyle caused Celina to stumble and Argyle defense made good plays on INT and punt return. And, the Argyle kicking game was awesome! But they did not dominate Celina like what was predicted to me by my coaching buddies.

This is all moot now. Celina, Argyle and Prosper all got eliminated which causes some head scratching.

Congratulations to Argyle on a great season, and the district 9-3A championship. It was well deserved.

You suggested I watch some tape. No thanks. I've watched many thousands of hours of tape in my life, so I guess I'll just keep fishin and thinkin.
