The UIL is supposedly considering 256 slots for 5A sports and making the cutoff number around 2000.

Possible breakdown

2000 -5A
1000 -4A
450 -3A
175 -2A

Any thought's?

If the 4 A top number goes down the 3 A number can not go up or the 2A number. With those numbers you gain around 14 new 5 A's if the top of 4 A goes to 2000 then 3A would go down not up. Just my take

Sorry what I am saying is if the number goes to 2000 for the top of 4A then that moves up 14-16 schools to 5A which gives 256. That is lowering the top of 4A. If that happens the 3A top # goes down not up. You lose 14 schools in 4A you replace them with the top of 3A. So bottom number of 4A goes down to

If that happens these schoolGoes to 5 A
Midlothian 2059, Del Valle 2079, Carrollton Smith 2084, Dallas Highland Park 2009, Carrollton Smith 2084, Mansfield Timberview 2056, Mansfield Legacy 2048, Granbury 2063.5, Abilene Cooper 2048, Lewisville The Colony 2003, Laredo Johnson 2081.5
Laredo Nixon 2024, Mission 2071, Richmond Foster 2034.

If that happens the top # in 3A would go down 84 and that would move up 12 teams

It only makes sense if you don't consider that Houston ISD will probably have a 3A district if they do not petition for several of their schools to play up. Word is that they will be able to field a district of 4-5 schools which could put Stafford in the district with them to make an urban district in Houston that is 3A. If this happens, and possibly a similiar thing happening in Dallas ISD, then the ceiling for 3A is up in the air.

I agree. The number would still have to come down jsut not as much. You are right I could see that happening as well.

That aint happening. Highland Park will not be 5A. They are the 4A Abilene Wylie. Their number +1 equals the top of 4A.

What people are forgetting is that if this is true and 11 more schools are pulled up into 5A, they will be more than replaced by all the new 4A schools opening up next year.

Most of the new schools coming in will be 4A -- I've heard as many as 20 of them. That will push more smaller 4A's down into 3A. Then you have the HISD schools staying 3A and no longer opting up, which works the top of 3A the opposite way.

So in the end, I could easily see the top of 4A go down and the top of 3A not change drastically. Probably your standard 20 students for population growth.
