7 Stars for the 7 State Championships
Traditionally, Brownwood has had playoff jerseys with stars on the shoulders but this year, they went with helment decals.

Wait so Brownwood in the past has had special playoff jerseys???

Huh, I didn't know that. Guess it has to do with the fact that they hadn't made the playoffs in half a decade:p

Rocket, Lookin, Beast.. someone, fill me in on this tradition. Why'd Shipley change it? And how/why did it start?

They should make it a permanent look, seeing as they will lose to Graham in the playoffs and not have a chance to win the 8th championship:D

HAHA.

It looks like they just did what the Detroit Lions did. That's the new Lions logo in Rockets picture. Hopefully Brownwood atleast keeps the more updated Lion logo, I like it alot better.

The Lions were 4A, Div 2, quarter finalists in '06, losing to Waco High so it has only been a 2 year absence from the playoffs for them.
I am not sure when Coach Wood started the stars on the shoulder but it goes back to at least the mid 70's. Our AD has his playoff jersey framed and hanging on his office wall. He graduated from Brownwood in '78 so it predates that. My guess is that Coach Shipley made a budgetary decision...decals are much less expensive.

HAHA I know I was just messing with them all.
The decals were probably chosen as a last minute decision because Brownwood hadn't ordered playoff jerseys in years. I mean after so long you just lose hope and the tradition dies right guys?

And I'd be interested if any of those rednecks could produce some photos of these famed playoff jerseys.

Gordon Wood started the stars on the jersey way back either in the late 60's or early seventies, of course they got new jerseys when ever they added a title, the tradition continued on all the way until this season when Bob Shipley decided to go with the stars on the helmet, because Shipley likes the plain solid color uni's with nothing else on them.

Hows the Brownwood faithful feel about this?

BTW, I like the plain uniforms also.

BTW, I like the plain uniforms also. There were some who complained, which is expected when something changes that has been going on for many years, but for the most part, it has been well accepted since he only moved the stars instead of not having them at all, however; they are harder to see on the helmets.

I like them better than the maroon ones( not a fan of maroon at all).

I'm a fan of the white helmet, white face mask, with the maroon lion. When I played, helmets were white, maroon face mask, 2 maroon strips down the middle, and a maroon lion. Those looked pretty cool too.
