Dalhart is closer to Billings, MT than it is to Brownsville. El Paso is closer to San Diego, CA than it is to Texarkana.

I was talking to a trucker out on I20 a couple of months ago about his first trip to Texas. He had just done 9 hours from the Louisiana border headed west. His mind was completely blown by the sign that read 'El Paso 445 mi'

'The sun has riz and the sun has set,
and we aint outta Texas yet....'

Texas is BIG . I remember driving to Sweetwater in '06. That was a long drive. The change in vegetation was so cool. My kids were amazed by all the cacti and Mesquite growing. Nothing but Pine trees around here. I remember that sign on I 20 about El Paso 400+ miles. I have never been to El Paso and I will never go if it is in a car. :D

Texas is one big State!

I checked four different distance sites, they list Dalhart to Brownsville ranging from 727-740 miles and Dalhart to Billings as 760-774 miles. 900 either direction sounded a bit off.

the map sites with directions will all be longer than the actual distance between the two. one has to decide which they will go with when determing distance

Yall are probably too young to remember Red Skelton's television show. He did a monologue once where he described a coast to coast family driving vacation. His comment about Texas was "Texas is the only place where you can drive for miles and miles, and see absolutely nothing but miles and miles".

before we split this hair anymore, are we talking distance by highways, as the crow flies or distance accounting for potty breaks, blizzards and bbq?

Better hope you don't face Clint in the 2nd round. I believe it's even further from Brownwood than Dalhart is.

According to Mapquest:
Brownwood to Clint = 512 miles
Clint to Phoenix, AZ = 456 miles

Orange is 25 miles further away than Vidor (they're both in Orange County)

Orange to Anthony is 879... you cross the 880 mile marker on I-10 in Orange right before crossing into Louisiana
