It appears several current 4A schools may be moving down to 3A next year. Those possible include Fort Worth Dunbar (in 4A Playoffs this year) Stephenville ( Whoa) Dallas Lincoln (Always looming) Mineral Wells (Beat bot cuurent playoff bound Glen Rose and Bridgeport...was behind only 10-3 at the end of 3 against 4A Powerhouse Aledo until #1 LB went down with a torn ACL, He'll be back next year. All sophmore backfield). Just a few I can think of....

Welcome to the board. I can assure you that 3A will welcome any team from 4A with open arms. They did us anyway. :D

FW Poly is likely to move down also and FW Carter-Riverside will likely move up - Dunbar and Poly both turned in numbers in the 800's ... schools have shrunk doe to low-performing status ... won't all these change the look in North Texas 3A?

Things could get interesting. Poly and Dunbar are both 4A playoff teams this year. Basketball could get real a real boost as Dunbar has always been a perinniel power in Basketball. as has Poly, Lincoln, & Mineral Wells. Along with Kennedale and Abilene Wylie...round ball will have excitement galore in 2011!!! This will definately shake up the football districts. Depending which way a couple of schools end up. Stephenville is on the bubble depending where the UIL sets the cutoff. I really think it will be around 1015 or so which would keep them at 4A. But really who knows.NOBODY..I have never been able to guees right yet when it comes to the UIL!!!

Sounds like the 3A/4A cutoff may rise. Any idea where the 2A/3A cutoff will fall? The last thing the smallest 3As need is for even more small 4As to drop down to 3A given that large 3As can already be more than twice as large as the smallest.

I'm guessing between 470-480

What number did FW Carter-Riverside turn in?

on the oldcoach they are saying El Campo and La Marque could drop. I think they both have around 980 or a lil less. Im not sure what the current cut off is but this could change a lot. although I personally think that El Campo wont drop but La Marque could and Watch if they do!!

Some numbers turned in:
Stephenville 1034
Springtown 1030
Dallas Lincoln 1015
Fort Worth Poly 986
Mineral Wells 961
Kennedale 924
Alvarado 968

I'am not sure but I would look for Fort Worth to have 3 or 4 schools with 3A #'s Northside, Carter-Riverside, Castleberry

even with 3A numbers I would look for the Fort Worth schools to opt up...which is something that I cant figure out why...
unless you have outstanding athletes every year...ie..Stephenville...It can be a little intimidating for a school with 1000 kids and 35 on the sidelines and to look over at a school in the same district with 1900 and 65 on the sidelines...
Of course a lot of factors besides numbers come into play...tradition, coaching, work ethic, DNA etc...

Budgets and travel expenses is what keeps most metro schools from dropping, even if they can.

Makes sense too me...opting up for metro schools that is...
I would also like to congratulate our old nemesis the Graham Steers on their outstanding season...
By the way I see they will lose a few players next year as they are senior loaded with 21 at last count... and does Brad go south to Austin next year with his son? Thats the rumors we are hearing...

The UIL likes to keep a 2.2 ratio so I did some math with projected numbers.

445 - 979

450 - 990

455 - 1,001

460 - 1,012

465 - 1,023

470 - 1,034

475 - 1,045

480 - 1,056

Which number might the UIL go with. I know they start with 5A and work down so that is why I put options.

I'm guessing they'll be somewhere witin these.
455 - 1,001

460 - 1,012

465 - 1,023

Glad to hear ya'll are maybe gonna be back with us!!! It will be nice to drive to the Wells rather than 2 1/2 hours somewhere else. Most of my family are from MWells, it will be fun.

I think it would be more exciting than our current group which is a real traffic nightmare with Birdville, Saginaw, Boswell & Brewer. It would be like the old days. I can see it now:

Graham
Mineral Wells
Breckinridge
Bridgeport
Decatur
Springtown
Stephenville
Lake Worth

FWISD schools don't generally opt up as a rule. Carter-Riverside and DHJ have been 3A for a few years now and have plenty of short trips (Kennedale, Castleberry, Lake Worth). Poly and Dunbar will fit in nicely. Besides, Poly and Dunbar dropping helps the 4A logjam in FWISD.

I wonder if those numbers are right Celina may move to 2A--they are really pushing to be at 437 junior & senior class are really small about 120

Stephenville is going to go 15-0 because they are dropping down and were good in 4A 15 years ago...

So where does your loyalty lie...North Forney or Stephenville?
or both...

Now I'm really confused..
But you have to admit...if the ville drops down to 3A things could change alot...no longer will Bwood and Abilene Wylie(the 3A equivilant to Aledo) be the top dogs. Ok, this year Graham is the exception.

I think so also but will they opt out? Idk but i think that these two might want to stay 4a. But on the other hand Gillis is a great coach who has never won a state championship, which might lead him to wanna drop. La Marque is going to be competitive regardless is they drop or not, they have been down last couple of years but the tradition is strong and they are really young!!

When has Wood been a top dog in 3A since they came back down?

3A has too wide an enrollment spread!

3A should be split into two classifications 3A I & 3A II and not have to play each other in district or playoff play....

Ok, this year Graham is the exception. Played Aledo when they were 3A, went 1-1 in 2 very good games. If they are 3A line em up, S'ville, Wylie, LaMarque. I think that it would be a great to have the Ville in 3A along with MW.

I heard from a reliable source in El Campo that Gillis has no interest in dropping to 3A unless the UIL makes them.

They have no choice. You can choose to opt down.
