I am making the trip to Greenville Friday to check out LEs round 2 opponet. Can someone tell me what to expect? Pass or run teams, good defensive teams, key players etc...

Who should win?

I don't know anything about Wills Point. Lovejoy is quite balenced.
The QB is very speedy. In our game 2 weeks ago, our top RBs were out. He ran for 258 yds and passed for 139, he had 5 running TDs and 1 throwing. Both of those backs will be back for the playoffs. We have an excellent kicker, really good.

I would appreciate knowing something about Wills Point.

There is a Van poster, ICU812, on here and they are in same district with WP. He should help give us some insight. I have heard that they have a lot of experienced kids but know zero about their style.

I went to the WFAA site and looked up our stats, some people like to look at stats.
Lovejoy has 1729 yds passing
2176 rushing
they average 390+ yds per game
they allow 271 yds/game
our QB is 94 of 178 for 1572 yds
with 4 ints and 12 tds
948 yds rushing

All LE trys to do is make playoffs and work on a variety of offensive formations and plays. Now records don't matter 6-4 LE beat Aledo in 99. 7-3 LE beat Gilmer in 06.

Next question:confused:

I certainly hope that they improve   Your questions, that is.

.

I have a question. Are you saying the LE does not try to win every game... That's impressive. Guess they wanted to be 6-4 right now...plan worked to profection! Since they dont try to win every game, are they planning on winning next week? Just wondering!

How right you are LEDad. Too bad that you have the circus to contend with :crazy1: Anyway, level of competition does play into season records and any intelligent person could see that. LE only plays teams at the top of their game for preseason and that will make the difference when we go up against the 10 and 0 teams who did not play teams the calibur of Gilmer BY CHOICE. I don't know what the schedule strength other 3A teams had but LE played the 3rd harded schedule this year, AND IT WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE in the playoffs.

didn't you say that yesterday. Is that going to be your defense as to why LE ends the season at 6-5, because I am stupid... ok, what ever makes you feel better. Just so you know, if you are trying to hurt my feelings, you have a long ways to go. My old butt has been called a lot worse by people that I respect! With you, it's kind of like you talking about the Brownwood Lions, you dont know anything about them (could not even find us on a map) or me, so your comments mean nothing, yep thats right.... nothing!!!

Lovejoy will be a tough team to beat on turf and if they have their stud RB healthy. They are big up front on offense and defense and have a QB and RB that can take it all the way on any given play. They can run and pass equally which makes them very difficult to defend. Their only loss this season came at the hands of my Farmersville team on a night when Farmersville played their best game of the season. The Lovejoy faithful claim the mud gave us an unfair advantage.

Wills Point is very tough on defense. If I remember correctly the bulk of their offensive success against us came on a couple of middle screens to their very speedy RB (Morris). I don't really remember them having a ton of success rushing against us. They beat the Farmers by 7 points on a night when the Farmers had tons of turnovers (3 inside their own 30). Based on what some posters on Smoaky.com say Wills Points defense has improved quite a bit since our early season meeting with them. But so has most other teams. I predict Lovejoy will be the better of these two teams.

We played Wills Point and lost to them by six points. We had five turnovers in that game, so we deserved to lose. They do have a pretty good offense. They will run twins and trips to one side and send the receivers to block and hit the other receiver with a quick screen pass or slant and pick up yards after the catch. Their receivers are fast and can break tackles, but if your defensive secondary can make adjustments and attack their receivers at the line of scrimmage, then you may fare well. Wills Point's run defense is not bad, but their pass defense is susceptible. So, if you can pass on them, then you stand a good chance of beating them. If all you can do is run and your pass defense is not the strongest, then it will be tough to beat them.

However, the same goes for Lovejoy and I look for Lovejoy to possibly beat Wills Point. We beat Lovejoy on a very muddy field. The weather and field conditions definately took them out of their game plan and reduced their overall team speed. Their quarterback is the real deal. He can beat you with his arm and his legs. He is pretty fast and their offensive line is huge! They have a solid running back and some good overall team speed.

So, either team that LE faces will be a tough test for them as both teams have some good overall team speed. They better be able to defend the pass as both teams can light it up.

We did it by going 4-1 in district. I don't know of anyone who trys to lose. I do know several teams that use pre district to work on formations and schemes.  and see what works and what doesn't in an effort to win that game, much like NFL teams in their pre-season.:D

Wills poin runs the spread. They r pretty good. Good QB and Stud Recievers. I believe one is going to Ok ST. They also have alot of Jr's so they should be real good next year.

I haven't seen Lovejoy since last year in the playoffs. I assume they have improved but I don't think Lovejoy has the team speed Wills Point has. Last year in the playoffs Lovejoy just didn't have the team speed to stay with Van (who has similar team speed to WP). Other than that I think the teams are fairly similar.

Wills Point's offense is balanced and runs multiple formations. Good QB who can throw & run, RB is small but very quick, line is good, and they have some big play receivers. Defense is good but not great, it's a 3-4 I believe. I believe they are better vs. the pass than the run. But they are good against the run as well.

I give the edge to WP just based on their speed and athleticism at the skill positions. IMHO, in order for Lovejoy to win they have to whip WP at the los on both sides of the ball. If its a wash at the los I think WP has the edge at the skill positions. Both teams appear to be well coached.

This of course is based on having seen Lovejoy once last year and WP once this year.

We lost not only the game but our starting QB, Starting MLB, and a few others. No secret and we gave props to Stephenville. Lets look at what they haver done since then though. They have rolled through their district and completely dominated the majority of their district foes.

Seems if I remember correctly though at least 1 Bwd poster stated that players were being pulled after the QB went down and that Bwd just didn't care if they won. Just wanted to get to district healthy

At no point have I said that LE wasn't trying to win or didn't care if they won but those 1st 5 games are meaningless. Anyone from Brownwood who says any different... Well just read the S'ville thread

I heard that potential rd 2 sites have been arranged. I heard Lovejoy - LE probably Mt Pleasant or Wills Point - LE probably Hallsville. I got this third hand so don't hold me to it.
